If I were you, but I am not you. I would go to your local university in your area, and make your way to the local computer lab find the color laser printer and start mashing “Ctrl + P” That is what I did, and I have a lot of stuff printed out. Universities are just big money making scams anyways, so I do not feel bad at all.

Houdini Lounge » What are the fixes in 5.5.230 ?

I just downloaded 5.52.30 last night and used it a little bit, but did not do anything to intense. I was just curious what the fixes were from 5.5.208?
I checked the mail list archives but did not find any posts about the new version.

Technical Discussion » What is the deal with curves? (curve control point handle )
- capin_crunch

Okay I decided to sit down yesterday and start my lamp assignment for the 3dbuzz class, and everything is going pretty well for the most part. I answered a few of my own questions, and made some pretty big mistakes (End Caps are the devil!!! POLYCAP if your going to fuse points with another surface. Same goes with the SKIN OP; if your using that make sure you have Preserve Shape unchecked, or your going to have duplicate edges and points, which turns out to be a nightmare.)
Well back to subject (sorry about the rant) of curves. How come when curves are created in Houdini there are no little handles. to control the contour of the curve? Is it possible to have contoured curves using polygon curves, or am I asking too much? I am used to the Path tool in Photoshop to where I can convert a point to have a hard edge and then go to the next point and make that have a smoot edge. I thought the Bezier curve option would give me some extra control with control handles, but there are not any ): What gives?
Here is a picture of what I am describing.

as always the link will not work if you click on it. you must cut and paste the URL into your browser.

I wish I could help you, but I am having the first problem you ran into. I myself am presently on a NT machine, and I do not think when I installed Houdini 5.5.208 it placed any enviornmnet variables. At least I could not see any in there. When Houdini installed, does it automattically create path variables?

I am trying to some basic basic modeling, and I basicly need to do boolean operation, but I soon found out that the boolean operation will be obsolete in the next major release. So I quickly found out about the cookie OP. I have a circle I am trying to subtract a from a little primitive I constructed.
Basically I created two primitives, and I am trying to subract one from another, so I combined them in a merge sop. When I try to select the geometry primitive it selects both the circle and my “D” like object. When I click on a point or box select around a given point it wont even select.
I hope someone could please shead some light on my situation.
Please take a look at the picture.

The link above needs to copied and pasted into a browser manually because for some reason geocities does not support just clicking on the link and viewing the picture, dont ask me why.

I must say I am thouroghly impressed with your work; all I can say is keep up the good work, and hopefully sidefx will work on the NURBS modelling tools. I myself am still just trying to do basic modeling.

Houdini Lounge » delete edge with out destroying model????
- capin_crunch

That's exactly how I have been doing my poly modeling. You are indeed right, in that you can disolve two edges. I was strugling because I was trying to blast before dissolve. So now it is always dissolve blast (: There are just so many operators when it comes to SOP modeling, it is a bit overwhelming especially when you are first learning this stuff.
I do not know if it could be done, but when the tab key is hit, and you click on the filters menu, I would like to see a little question mark next each operator, prefreably the same help menu one recieves after applying the OP; so that way I wouldn't have to apply the OP, and then have to read the help menu, and then go back and delete the OP because I found out it was the wrong one, but thats just my two cents.

Technical Discussion » Adjusting the size and tolerance of the manipulator handles?

Is it possible to adjust the size and tolerance of the manipulator handles?
If you have to edit a file, will it be the same file on all platforms, or is it platform specific, or is it not even possibe because that information has been compiled in the code. I remember reading somewhere, (think it was here) the GUI could be sized up and down, to adjust the size of the icons with setting an environment variable. Would I have to go about doing the same for adjusting the manipulator handle?
