I'll try that thanks … I created default objects and applied the deformations to them.

I've just updated to the latest Houdini, and have tried to use the Break and Shatter functions as before, but they don't work as before.
1. Create object
2. Apply shatter or break
3. Select “Create inside faces” and “Keep Inside”\“Keep outside”
I cannot get to a view where the break is visible, or where more than 1 piece is created.
Has this functionality changed in v10?

Hi
Whatever .rat file (or other file) I try to load as an environment map into an Environment light, I get an error like the following:
“Unable to load texture ‘CARTSOF~1/Houdini/houdini/pic/DOSCH_CARB_01SN_lowres.rat’
UT_NetPacket::write: No such file or directory”
Apart from file corruption, is there any reason Houdini might be rejecting this file?

As well as a digital artist I'm a long-time computer user and software engineer by background … and it's taking me a long time to figure out how this software works!
Maybe those of you who have climbed up the learning curve can say whether it's a good workflow for an artist who works to tight schedules?

I'm a new user of Houdini 9.5 learning edition.
I have loaded up the Camp Fire example scene (http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1292&Itemid=279 [sidefx.com]) into H9.5 but can't get it to render. I have tried …
1) Playing the animation to generate some particles - but the viewport shows no particles being created.
2) Rendering off the different Mantra output nodes in the “out” section.
But the screen is black every time. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Am very new to Houdini 9.5 so maybe there is a simple answer to this.
I am following some of the dynamics animations from online tutorials and am coming up against this problem:
1) I import a Wavefront OBJ and select it
2) Select “Particle Fluid from Object” to create a fluid shape
3) Add ground plane
4) Run simulation
Instead of splashing to the ground, the object disappears at frame 2 and there is no splash.
Can anyone help?

Are you using Windows Vista, 32bit?
If so, you're going to have disable the caching on your DOP Network nodes. For reasons not understood by mankind, 32bit Vista seems behave awfully.
No it's XP Pro SP2, but it sounds like the same issue as disabling caching seems to reduce memory usage dramatically.

I'm a new Apprentice HD user, and finding my way around.
I am getting Memory Allocation Errors when running certain dynamics simulations e.g. This has happened when running a number of the example files.
At the moment of one crash, (frame 49 of a simulation) houdini.exe is using 770MB of memory but my computer has 2GB.
Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 2GB RAM, Win XP Pro SP2
Could you advise me of what is happening? Is there a way round this?

I add a colour map to a material using the file browser.
However, when it comes to rendering, I get a “Can't find <TEXTURE PATH> error”. It looks like the whole file path is in quotes, and part of it is in DOS8.3 format, and part of it is in long format.
Can anyone suggest what might be going wrong?

i dont know the example but if its in Sops just use the ROP_Output Driver SOP, when its in DOPs Import it to SOPs use a Object Merge or a DOP Import and use then a ROP_Output Driver SOP, … instead of using the ROP_Output Driver SOP you could also use the Geometry ROP in ROPs

Thanks - I'm new to Houdini so I don't quite understand all of those terms.
I've tried using an “RBD fractured object” operation on a sphere, which creates an AutoDOPNetwork and a DOPImport object in the sphere object.
I imagine that the AutoDOPnetwork contains the broken pieces of the sphere?
I've set the DOPImport node to “Import Geometry from DOP Network”, but when I select “Save Geometry” from this node, I get a solid sphere.
Any thoughts?

I want to shatter a mesh into 3D pieces or fragments, so that each piece becomes a closed 3D mesh in its own right, and then export to an OBJ or similar file.
One of the example files (Breaking Rock) seems to do accomplish this, but I'm not sure how to export it.

Is it possible to export animations (or single frames of animations) as polygon meshes in H9 Apprentice?
e.g. export a fluid or cloth simulation as an OBJ format mesh for import into other packages?
I can only find export to GEO & similar files which contains a point cloud or something similar, but not a polygon mesh.

Hi Folks
I am a new user of Houdini, and am trying to get my head round the basics of a node-based system.
I load a sample file, and create a Mantra render node, but when I click “Render” inside the node properties, I get the following error:
“No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host”
Sometimes it renders, sometimes I get this message.
Can anyone advise on why this might be happening? I have tried closing the application and loading again, but the error still appears.
