Hi,
For alot of years Im using houdini now....
We always using expressions like bbox, centroid,etc...
Wouldnt be nice to have a node that has this data available in a node?
to refference copy to other nodes instead of typing the code every single day?
I created them alot as preffs. but they somehow always dissapear on updates or new versions.
$OS in group-names.... they even cant be saved anymore by default (user preff... or others)
because its not working anymore after I guess 18.5...?
(but thats another problem)
Im sorry to place this in a group thats not the one to use...
but I couldnt find any other related group...
Its technical.... and I guess also a discussion???
what do other people like to see?

Didnt exactly work for me…
($F % 5) gives me: 1,2,3,4, -> 01234, 01234..etc
($F % 5)+1 gives me: 2,3,4,5, -> 12345, 12345..etc
in a timeshift:
($F-1) % 5 + 1 gives me: 12345, 12345…etc
but thnx for the guidance

Havent looked inside the files but you can just multiply the color by the displacement amount right?

Hi guys,
I have two questions.
After seeing some niceley shaded foam on the internet I was wondering how they did that.
The standard way is just not working.
Someone said to convert the particles to vdb, generate the gradient field and use it as surface normal for the calculation of surface normals in the volume shader. Can anyone explain me a bit more HOW to get this? / hip file.
Another question. I have my simulation done, try to shade it with a surface and a interior (uniform volume)
They should be matched because of a object merge. But the uniform volume gives it much more depth.(see attachment) How?

Yes, this did start happening when I updated my graphics card on both my work and home machines. I've submitted a bug anyway and the devs have the information, but in the meantime I'm trying to see if there's a way to downgrade my drivers.
Oh, and I'll be trying to achieve an interesting animation effect eetu - and I'm sure to get stuck and post for help, so I'll warn you in advance
having the same problem… only in the foreach.
Outside the foreach its just working fine….

Hi, I made an alembic of a coin falling were they are realy happy with the end result.
just a coin going up by a initial force in dops
and then falling on the groundplane
but is there a way to do a cycle with offset before the animation
so there can be a fade at the beginning and so the reel animation
can start 1 sec before it is now.
If you know a way in maya its even beter because im using that for my render.

Ok.. I found out how he did this, this is quite an important part he left out in the video but after opening the scenefile and found out what I was doing wrong.. sometime I forget there are scene files because I usually dont look at em..
He created a NURBS tube sets the first radius to 0 and then the height to 0 which results in a NURBS disc with perfect U and V coordinates.. very smart..
I hope this also helps for other people who bought the video and having the same problem!

Hi everyone,
I just banged my head against the table a few times on this one. I was messing around with the ocean wave tool in H13 and no matter what I did, the displacement wasn't showing up at render-time.
Well silly me, the default render format for the displacement is .pic extension, but even though you use that, houdini automatically converts this to .picnc. This filename/path is being referenced in the shader, but since it's looking for the original .pic, it won't find it, and you won't get the displacement.
Fix: just manually name your output to something with .picnc format and you'll be good to go with that.

Thnx. I was searching for that reason.
At some place i have no problems but at my school it doesnt displace while having the fetch connected to my mantra node. Also my displacement is clipping of on the top peaks.
Any idea about that?

MartybNzbut i have no options there for my abc file. In alembic rop i have to choose h..5 (h5..something*) somewhere else Maya cant read the file ( maya 2014 )

If you used packed geometry to do instancing, the Alembic exporter will export using the instancing mechanism added in Alembic1.5
you mean if i pack it i can export it? Im at my e highest level if i dive in my instancing i see points. You mean i can just there put my rop?
in the top level you dont seems to have a rop. I mean atvthe top level where your light camera an geo nodes get created.
