Technical Discussion » Background Image Interacting with the Scene

Thanks and forgive me for not giving enough detail but the background image is actually a sequence and the scene is camera tracked according to those. Then your solution will not help, right? Or I am totally wrong?

Hi everybody,
Is there a way to get volumetric effect (or a bright geometry) illuminate the background image of the scene?
If the answer is yes then how?
Thanks

Technical Discussion » Changes in Houdini Crowd (Following an old tutorial)

Hi everybody,
I am trying to do a Houdini Crowd Slugfest tutorial that was on cmivfx. it was simply clicking bake agent then and there appeared a dialog box with name. it also was giving a folder with agent bake name and all clips were added to that folder.
How is that being changed in recent versions? What do I do to bake agents? why does different folders appear after hitting agent button under the crowd tool?
Sorry for referring to old materials and thanks for your attention.

Technical Discussion » Assigning Texture to the Background

But how am I going to assign a procedural texture (e.g. AntiAlias Noise as I mentioned in my first post)?
I have worked in other packages and it is very easy to assign a computer generated texture to the background.
I want to have full control over the details without having to go to a 2d package or sth.

Sorry fellas for asking such a simple question but how do we assign something like Ant aliased noise to the black background so that it will be seen when rendered?
Simple question and googling did not help.

Thanks Tomas, yes indeed it does but I could not see it due to small amount of particles.

Hi folks,
How can I have particles occluding objects behind them so that I can render them separately and send them to do comp?
I tried to make an object that looks almost the same as the particles and used it as matte object but there has to be a better way.
Thanks for your helps.

Hi guys, If I have an object composed of separated parts (e.g. applying facet sop and turning unique points on) then how can I have it being fractured to pieces during rigid body simulation?
I have an unpacked object but it simply collides like a one-piece object.

Hi everybody,
Is it me or when there are grass or hair on the object then the final render has a lot of flickering?
My guess is that increasing ray samples might be helpful.
Any thoughts on this please?

Sorry but if I can restate my question as below:
Is it possible to get a rigid body interact with fluids(water, smoke etc)in Houdini? Something like piston?

Hi everybody,
Is it possible to have an object rotating around its pivot under the influence of wind or force? like wind turbine or sth?
I have experience in other software where we had hinge constraint. Is that available in Houdini?
Thanks for your attention.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Houdini Does not Run and I Get the Error Message of OpenCL

Hi everybody,
I was trying to add RBD Fracture material and got an error related to Opencl 2 days ago.(before I did not have any issue with the node)
Now situation is even worst since Houdini does not start and prompts following error:
"No OpenCL platform has the specified device type (HOUDINI_OCL_DEVICETYPE): GPU."
I added the "HOUDINI_USE_HFS_OCL=0" to the houdini.env and it worked but it was damn slow and there were lots of weird looking glitches on the screen.
I am a total beginner at linux/ubuntu and I have an indie license, What should I do?

Oh thank you. edge loop was so useful and I got more than what I had came for.
I still did not get answer no.3 but let me explore and will try to conclude.
Thanks again julca for the help.

Thanks a lot julca, quite helpful replies here.
1)Tbh I have never used lab tools and I was looking for a simpler approach. So you are telling me that there is not tool in H which can easily add parallel segments to a polygon? I am coming from an old software where hitting one button was doing it (in horizontal or vertical direction).
2) Thanks a lot.
3) I am not anywhere and I was trying to understand out of curiosity. I do not think I can use $CY/$NCY in vex and I was trying to understand how to replace it.

Hi everybody,
Sorry for asking primitive questions but:
1) How can I add rows or columns to a set of primitives with only one knife SOP? is there another tool to do that (edge divide, divide and subdivide did not help)?
2) How can I use attributes inside of transform SOP?
3) How do I get the number of copies and copy number in vex? it used to be $CY and $NCY in Hscript if I am not wrong.
I did not want to waste space by posting in separate threads. Thanks for your attention.

Technical Discussion » Using Houdini as Simulator Instead of Simulation Software

Hi everybody,
I have very poor knowledge in simulations and solvers.
Is it possible to use smoke solver (or flip solver etc) to do things like wind tunnels in Houdini and have the geometry fully interact with the flow? How good would be the precision and accuracy?
Is Houdini good enough to replace software like ANSYS or Abaqus for very simple sims that does not require extreme precision?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the stupid nature of my question.

Thanks a lot Tomas,
I was asking for doing this at DOP level and there is a particle speed limit if I remeber correctly but this also helps and does what I was looking for.
Still out of curiosity can I measure and do some extra things inside of DOP?
