But are you using Hardware Acceleration /Hardware Ray Tracing in Redshift? I believe that is what they call using Optix for ray tracing. This would also explain why the Denoiser doesn't work as it's also using Optix.

Redshift does render images making "full" use of the GPU's. But as you note, not only is the denoiser disabled, but I'm also getting an "OptiX msg: Error initializing RTX library" in the Redshift logs.

So, no hardware ray tracing, meaning something's obviously not right with my nvidia 515.48.07 driver installation.

Have also been unable to get the OptiX SDK sample files to run.

But, everything else seems to function correctly, and Redshift is solid, rendering without crashes.

Whereas, (Houdini 19.5) Karma XPU doesn't render at all.

Out of curiosity, anyone out there running a Debian 11 (or other Linux) system with Karma XPU running correctly? Redhift? OptiX SDK sample files?

well for me i test large scene in XPU

and in windows GPU working perfectly
BUT in debian 11 the GPU works BUT its failed all the time

the big question if karma XPU its out-of memory soo how is it possible thats in windows its working and in linux its doesn't?
and i take this even further in windows i also open two 3d software both with large scene and still its working perfectly without failing (also test it in 327 build and its do the same).
but in linux its failed all the time

when i check the render stats its show me that the total its 11GB (and i have 24GB) and still its failed in debian or ubuntu....
BUT in windows when i open 2 software with large scene i was amazed because its supposed to fail but its working perfectlly .
in the past i assumed that windows using "share GPU memory" but someone explain me thats its only for iGPU (and the wierd part thats windows still using it)

and also linux its far more effecint with vRAM soo it doesn't supposed to fail.
soo something wierd going on in linux behaveir with houdini .

It doesn't do this automatically (as GL can be called upon to do other rendering), but you can clear GL by displaying an empty LOP (like a SOP Create without anything in it), then switching the renderer to Karma XPU, and then displaying the LOP you want to render.
thanks for this advice
i already try it and the problem with this its that its doesn't release all the used vram soo in addition to that i clear it by use the cache manager and thats solve it.

it will be nice if sidefx team will add this very small feature to the render setting node by simple checkbox that will automatically release the vram when switching render .

and thanks alot.
Just want to mention that it was in Ubuntu BUT when I try it in windows without this trick or without clean cache it's working perfectly.

Very strange behavior.
I hope someone can verify this issue.

Another thing to keep in mind is that once HoudiniGL has been activated, it will allocate GPU memory and keep hold of it (even when made inactive again).
So to further maximise your GPU memory I would suggest...
- saving your scene with KarmaXPU as the selected renderer
- restarting houdini
- loading the scene again, and render, without activating houdiniGL
cheers

this trick working great but
tell me is there a way to inactive houdiniGL when i switch to karma? or releasing this memory when switch to karma?
(i mean do it without saving and restart houdini)?

i see that no one ask it soo i will ask it
does karma xpu in houdini 19.5 support out-of-cores?

i'm asking because i'm guessing most of the people here using houdini for VFX and because of that most of them have heavy scenes.
soo its logical that out-of-cores will be "must" feature in xpu, Am i right?

and if not , are you going to support it before houdini 20 or only in houdini 20?

Houdini Lounge » layering or mixing in karama XPU (H19.5) ?

You can only mix colors, not shaders, so you'll have to adapt your material strategy to leverage that.
thanks for your time and help

I referred mostly to shaders
and because of that there is complex shaders that you can't create it mtlx .
and there is a mix shaders with non-unifrom shape between them that you can't make it without mixing/layering.
and thanks again.

sidefx made greate job BUT why do they call it a BETA? if it missing a feature that is so basic.

As I see basic feature like layering and mixing still doesn't support XPU in h19.5

Soo how they can call it BETA if basic feature like layering and mixing still doesn't supported?

And don't get me wrong sidefx are doing amazing job

all of you forgets that sidefx publish "houdini 19.5 launch" 10 days before the event soo
its only 4 days from now.
so it's understandable why there might not be sneak preview.
but i also hope their will be.

I have enough of render plugins ! please give us the best xpu render ever!
i believe karma XPU will go beta with principled shader support. i will be surprised if they don't because everyone expecting this.
Would this also mean support for nodes that aren't Material X? That would be awesome!

I don't think it would because of the quote from Materialx documentation [www.sidefx.com]:

MaterialX shading networks are designed to be portable between applications and renderers.

Because Karma XPU will never support the traditional VEX-based shaders used by Mantra and Karma CPU, MaterialX is probably the future of writing shaders for the Karma renderer.
now i'm more curious to see what sidefx will bring in karma XPU
