RobWThe good news is that PySide2 is almost finished, which is the missing piece we've been waiting for to jump to Qt5. However, that is slated for the next major version, unfortunately.
Another version of Houdini, but the problem is still here with a Wacom tablet in -mouse mode-.
Installed H15.5 for testing, and it's giving me the same pain as before.
Is there -any- timeline when this will be fixed?

Indeed, if I remember correctly, SideFx had to take a loan for 1.5 million dollars to develop Houdini 15.

We just backported a big chunk of changes for the docs, which should be in today's build.
- Expressions, VEX functions, commands and other lists now show a short snippet of what each call does.
- We've categorized the VEX functions [sidefx.com].
- You can now run a central help server, using the new hhelp command. Eg.:hhelp serve
- UTF8 encoding enforced, so no more funny characters.
- And more.
Keep the bugs coming.

Grayson MendenhallHave you tried exporting it as an .eps file from Illustrator? Houdini can read EPS files, but not Illustrator files directly.
Hey all. I'm new to Houdini and I'm trying to import an Illustrator file to extrude in Houdini.
All of my paths are closed. I don't have any fonts, pixels, or gradients.
I still can't get the FileSOP to import my splines. I've tried a number of different solutions that I've found here on the forums, but it still won't show up in H14.
Check my .ai file below and if you have any advice for me, I'd appreciate it.

Time to smarten this thing up.
Is there a way to detect what selection mode is currently picked? In Hscript, Python and HDK? So we could switch tool mode? Any examples?
This would shorten the shortcuts list, since yo could have one shortcut for multiple modes and it would call proper tool for each mode. For example, pressing 'C' (Connect) while two polygons selected would call PolyBridgeSOP in polygon mode, AddSOP in point mode while two points selected and maybe SkinSOP in edge mode while two edges selected.
In HDK, it's possible. You can call SOP_Node::nodeSelectionSet() on the display SOP, and on the GU_SelectionSet, call activeSelectionType().

Werner ZiemerinkYeah, it's not switching to polygon selection, as it should (since polybevel can take points/edges/poly). It's defaulting to the edge selection, which is empty. If you switch to the poly selection, then you'll see it.

McNistorHm.. Never thought about this case. I'll have a look at this tomorrow.
in Houdini
convert selection to doesn't seem to work when =.
In Softimage (sorry SreckoM, can't stop doing this apparently) I can convert poly to poly (et al) but not in Houdini. It sucks because I can achieve some type of selections otherwise difficult (time consuming) to do, like alternating components for various purposes.
McNistorYes and no. Keyboards are weird. Especially when in the land of non-US keyboards.
Also the shortcut description is a bit confusing. Instead of ctrl+$, maybe ctrl+shift+4 since that's what you're actually pressing. Not hugely important…

@define MY_PI 3.1415926
@define MY_PI_2 1.5707963
@define LIGHT_AMBIENT 0x01
@define LIGHT_DIFFUSE 0x02
@define LIGHT_SPECULAR 0x04
@define LIGHT_DIFFSPEC (LIGHT_DIFFUSE/LIGHT_SPECULAR)
For some reason those @defines seem to be terminating the parsing without an error or a warning, and then the compiler decides that it hasn't declared a context function due to it. Change those to #define and it'll compile the rest of the file (albeit with errors).
We'll fix the parser.

Tod RyanThe part that you posted and the system information. The crash log indicates a graphics driver issue, so getting the card and driver version would be an excellent starting point. You should be able to find all that information in the About Houdini box. Click on “Show Detail”, right-click in the text area and select “Copy Text”. Paste it all here or send that to support.
Is there a specific part of the log that I should focus on?

McNistorYeah, it's showing the cook/node selection, which, after enabling selection memory, I had to put back in there somehow, because “workflow” (sigh).
But it looks cool with one isolated edge loop doesn't it?
I'll make sure it gets not drawn when in the edit state.

McNistorI worked on the integration of mental ray for Softimage|XSI for 10 years. I removed the mental ray support from Houdini in H13. It did not feel wrong.
Right on tricecold
However let me be the devil's advocate for a moment here: as bad as M-ray is, some of its shortcoming occurring in Autodesk's packages it's their fault, not Mental Images' (now nvidia) - as far as I know Adsk does the implementation. Softimage had the best one (and probably still does) but when it was acquired by Adsk it started to lag in that department as the other two.
I'm not 100% sure but I think I read somewhere that Maya 2016 doesn't even have M-ray any longer - it's available as a plugin. It goes to show something something…

What is upper frame ruler meaning? It's different from lower ruler. I can't find in document.
thanks!
However, yours looks very weird. Can you post the scene?

jellYou might want to sit down for this one: Modo, at least on Linux, uses Qt too.
(And yes. When H14 went to Qt… I felt like a family member died. Was hoping modo and Houdini were the last hold-outs against Qt.)
No-one sane wants to deal with the crap that is the window manager zoo on Linux. Better leave Qt to take care of all that rubbish.
jellThis is fixed in Qt5. Everyone wants to upgrade to Qt5. However, there's no PySide for Qt5, which is currently putting the kibosh on that one.
I can confirm that Qt's own Qt Creator app (it's wierd little pseudo-IDE) which is based on Qt 5.4.0… …clicks just fine with a Wacom Intuos 3 in mouse mode. No hover offsets, no ignored clicks.
…
So if Houdini ever updates to Qt 5. Things might be fine.
Houdini Lounge » Keyboard Numpad Del Key H14 change

Dawid Antczak2You did not have this “problem” in H13, because Houdini treated your keyboard as US ASCII, regardless of your keyboard settings.
I'm just wondering why random behavior, and why I did not have this “problem” in H13.
If you're using either Linux or Windows, you can set your keyboard to be application-specific, and switch the keyboard language to US ASCII for Houdini only.
Dawid Antczak2It's not random. It is, in fact, very deterministic.
Like I said:
I open H13, randomclick&push numpadDel = .
I open H14, randomclick&push numpadDel = . or , randomly
NumPadDel = ‘.’ – if you're in a numeric input field, and the field's expression mode is off.
NumPadDel= <whatever your keyboard driver tells Houdini> – if you're either in a string input field, or expression mode is on.
I just verified this, and the Polish keyboard does indeed send ‘,’ to Houdini when pressing NumPadDel. This makes sense since the decimal mark in Poland is a comma (according to Wikipedia), rather than a period.
EDIT: What you're probably running into, which may seem confusing is that if there's more than one period in the number, the field automatically switches to expression mode (since the number is no longer valid) and then you start getting a comma instead of a period.

Dawid Antczak2It wasn't “normal”. Houdini 13 and prior didn't have international keyboard support, and completely ignored your system's language settings.
Simple thing that in H13 worked “normally”:
I presume you're using non-English keyboard? In that case your keypad's period/delete key may or may not output a comma instead, depending on your particular language settings (Swedish keyboards do this, for example).
There's a convenience hack for numeric input fields, where pressing that key will automatically translate to a period, as a convenience. However, if the field is in expression mode, it will use the comma, as intended by the language settings.

goldleafPlus, reorder inputs wouldn't always undo correctly, making its place as a naked hotkey even more terrorizing.
The hotkey changes, where a modifier key was added, happened to try and reduce destructive network changes by accidentally hitting a key. In the case of R, I've seen users hit R, and switch some Merge or VOP inputs, and didn't realize it for a while.

mantragoraYeah, we're slowly trying to fix flags to be bools and functions to be const-correct. MSVC seems particularly picky about implicit casting of bool to anything else, and vice versa.mantragora
allownumeric is a bool in both cases
Ok, now I woke up finally. Fast fix was to cast allownumeric to int
I keep to bool for passing arguments, instead of int, and old parts of HDK still use int in some places.

McNistorLet me clarify, just so that you can stop spraying your coffee everywhere: Not embarrassing is getting it to the level of the Softimage modelling toolkit. To me, that's the baseline.
Now, leaving aside the fact that nothing is set in stone, I have to ask: why bother at all? “not embarrassing” is not a goal worthy of pursuit IMO. You either make it good so that it's the best or among them or you focus on something else where your time and effort will be more appreciated, in this case tools for FX.
Bear in mind that the SI modelling toolkit has barely been touched since XSI 6.0. It doesn't touch ZBrush when it comes to organic modelling – and neither was it intended to – and it's quite behind the times when it comes to re-topo work.
We clear?
