Hey SideFX,

today a retweet by you from pixars announcement of the new material pack in reached me. The materials are usable in houdini.

As far as I know there is actually no preset browser for renderman materials so will be a preset browser with renderman 22 in houdini 17 or how can I use this materials in houdini?

Cheers,

Thies

I have a sim with low_res_geo for my project and want to replace the geo's with the highres counterparts.

I have a little example file here in which I want to replace the low_res spheres with the highres sphere.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I guess I have another issue with my test scene.
After testing various settings with the right density of the duck with the feedback scale of 1 in the solver, it seems that there is an effect which I can best describe as that the duck after contact with the fluid sinks more or less evenly in the fluid like “mud” until the feedback scale pushes the duck up.

It looks less dynamic if I go up with the particle res. Upping the fluid res leads in more unrealistic sinking behavior.

I tried to up the solver substep from min 2 and max 3 but the result is the same so what I'm doing wrong here? The lower res flip looks better than the higher res flip.

I have attached 3 flip books with the 0.1 0.08 and 0.06 for the particle separation and the scene file.

Thanks

P.S.: With particle sep of 0.06 and solver substep min3 max5 the duck bounces up from the fluid surface. Hmm confuses me

In my test scene my duck bumps of the fluid surface with bullet representation and solving. with rbd it seems that it works best but why?

Thanks

I have setup a very simple test scene to get in with fluid particles. So I have a box container with bullet concave. If i use a particle separation of 0.08 the fluid particles falls somewhere I have no idea. With 0.04 it is stable.

Of course I will choose a high amount of particles for a good sim but I would like to understand this behaviour.

johnnycore you are right.

I have setuped a towel scene in Blender which was pretty forward. I have attached images from the towel without the fur and the plain velvet shader and the final node setup which is pretty easy to unterstand.

To create the velvet look just with the mantra surface material is not possible and I have no idea what I have to do in the complicated node setup in houdini.

I have also attached the fest_scene file of houdini.

Would be great if you have an idea

so, a least it wasn't very helpful because the Tutor uses edge fallof which can't reach the quality of a real velvet shader and I also think ist quitt hard with this technique in an brsd shading model. Second to implement that in the mantra surface is quitt hard for because I'm just an artist and my knowledge of shader programming are limited.

So, any more advises?

I'm playing with the mantra surface shader to get the look of a piece of cloth. I'm trying to make a towel and played around with the fresnel and IOR.

In some other 3D applications there are specific shader models for velvet and cloth and I guess that this is not achievable with the default mantra surface shader.

So, is there a specific velvet shader around for Houdini?

Cheers Thies

Hi Michiel,

thanks for your hip. It seems that it has a lot to do with deep coding into the DOP's. But I will give it a try.

The plasticity implementation in the old cloth solver was a lot nicer. Why has SideFX not implemented this functionality in the new FEM solver, or, left in the old cloth solver in H 13.?

In H13 plastic deformation in the cloth solver (now FEM solver) is no longer available. So I have to use H12.5 or is there another workflow in H13 which I'm missing?

Thanks

If I go on the render tab in hqueue I get the proceed information and after that nothing happens.

Hmm … any suggenstions?
