How about writing in proper English? You alienate a large number of potential responders with this cell-phone gibberish.

Google language tools could have come in handy.

I live in Montreal and from what I've sadly been able to establish:

- we don't have a user group (yet…Torontonians should roadtrip here…fools)
- we don't have any schools offering Houdini training

On the other hand, CMIvfx and the Gnomon Houdini DVDs are not out of reach. You can also download the 3DBuzz tutorials, which are very good as well.

Very Very Very strange. I typed the expression Mark and it did not work. Then, I re-checked my filepath, and I noticed that one of my sub folder's is named Steve's Work. I removed the ' and now it works just fine. Funny. Anyways, thanks for the expression, I really appreciate it.

Also, that 00001 after Mesh01 is your padded frame number. So you really want:

filepath/Mesh01`padzero( 5, $F )`.bin

I do have a simple HDA that wraps around the rf importer, to create a slightly more convenient interface for loading rf data. Among other things, it separates the filename from the frame number so you don't have to setup the expressions yourself every time. I'll post it up later if you can't get that expression to work.

Thanks alot, I appreciate it.

So I tried :
filepath/Mesh01`padzero(_5,_$F_ )`.bin

and sadly nothing

Alright I tried the suggestions and:

-filepath/Mesh0100001.$F5.bin doesnt work.

-filepath/Mesh0100001'padzero 5, $F'.bin

Am I typing it wrong?

I never tried it, but you could export your RF mesh as an .obj sequences…then you wouldn't need this plug-in.

plugin is here - http://digitalcinemaarts.com/dev/real_flow/index.html [digitalcinemaarts.com]

For some reason, I can't seem to get my meshes imported as an animation (even using the $F..) I posted a while back in the tech. forum but nothing seemed to fix it.

Thanks alot Robert.

As far as my own tutorial request goes, any tutorial is a valuable one when it comes to houdini, since they are scarce. However, if I had to choose a specific matter, I would opt for Particle training.

(And of course, tutorials for the new fluid solver!)

Is any one in NY using Houdini for anything weather for commericals or even art?

Same question goes for Montreal, it sucks to see the Houdini training being limited to UK and LA…

Hey guys, when I create RF Import node, I set the filetype to Mesh, and I select my sequence, it doesn't give me the option to import the mesh as an animation. My mesh is named Mesh0000001 (all the way to Mesh0000089), so I thought I'd type my filepath/Mesh$F7.bin but that didn't work either. Any ideas?

Hmm, does Montreal actually have that big of a Houdini user group, I know it's big on XSI since softimage is located here, but Houdini?

CMIvfx has 3 free tutorials (1 on halo, 1 on particles dividing over an l-system, and one on breaking an object based on noise, which dives into some vops). But it also has 2 dvds (and more coming, which is what you can read at their forums). The 2 dvds: 1 is on creating digital cities, the other is about l-systems.

About those free tutorials, which were taken off the net, it would be so awsome if you or somebody could re-host them (legally of course). Those video tutorials were the best/

Side Effects is pleased to release two new tutorial videos covering the setup and capture of skin geometry using the new metaball based muscle system. Product specialist Calin Casian takes you through a simple arm setup and shows how to setup null objects, add the muscles, capture the geometry and paint capture weights.

Considering alot of us use the apprentice version, it is nice to hear that sidefx listen's to their users, and not only the ones with deep pockets . Thanks guys.
