Technical Discussion » flatten UVs but keep vertices with existing UVs pinned

I have a geometry in Houdini where some vertices have existing UVs, and some do not. I want to flatten the UVs of the whole object while keeping the vertices with existing UVs pinned.
The UVs are vertex attributes, those do not have UVs are 0,0,0 vectors.
This could be done in blender, but I want a procedural way to do it. And I can not realize it in Houdini.
Any suggestions or guidance on how to achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone, I have some houdini files must be opened with python2. In Maya2022,There is a way, you can just change "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2022\bin\maya.exe"  to "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2022\bin\maya.exe -pythonver 2" on the desktop. Is it possible houdini doing the same thing? Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone, here is a simple question. I have some points in Houdini and I want to make a NURBS curve. There are two types of NURBS curves. One is EP curve(curve through every point), the other is CV curve(every point is a control point).
I use a add node to connect every point as a polyline and use a convert node to turn it into a NURBS curve. But I can only turn it into a CV curve. So how can I turn it into EP curve, which every point is on the curve and not as a control point?
Thanks in advance!

Hi guys ,recently I start to do some design stuff in Houdini. I find a video down below. It started with a tetrahedral based volume, and I guess it reduce its tetrahedral by stress distribution.
The process.

1 This is the initialized with some stress.

2Convert to a volume

3Start reduction

4Generate the tree like structure

5Final result

6Another desigh with a letter A

7Result

So is it possible do this with Houdini? Hope some one can answer this. Thanks in advance!

Pretty cool. Was fabricating the pannels done using data from houdini? or did you have to recreate the pannels in a different application. Will be nice to see your process and where houdini helped.

Hello imensah, it looks like you quite familiar with the construction process. I am an architecture designer, my job is to make digital file which can pass the information to the manufacture factory. The Houdini file is quite good for digital production. But the 2D CAD drawings which is required by the industry has to been drawed by hand in CAD programs. But I have to say, Houdini did the most important job in the pipeline and we hope it will be used in the future project.

That's absolutely stunning! Fantastic work, and interesting to know you used Houdini. How much of the design process was it used for?

Hello danwood82, although there are some other softwares uesd in the process, Houdini maybe the most important system in the design and detailing. I develop a node based system which architects can easily change form and pattern of the building and view the result directly.
I post a viewport image here, hope you like it.

Nice work….. how hard was it in compaired to a cad system?

hello mandrake0, I think Houdini is a very good complement of CAD system. Because CAD system is too rigid for the creativity purpose. In the era of digital file manufacturing, the old system maybe should developed by some more creativity ways . I think Houdini offers a balance that we can both worked with science and design. The feedback is quite direct.

Last Picture, this project is done by a special kind of concrete call by “GRC Concrete” which can be manufactured by 3d digital files.
