Hi,
I solve this by creating sh-script that starts sesinetd, and launches houdini. And made a symlink on this script.
It is interesting that My LMDE Linux Mint creates a desktop launcher that starts server and houdini with that command: /opt/hfs12.5.533/bin/houdinifx %F

I had the same problem on Ubuntu 12.04 and Houdini 11.1.201. After installation there was no icons. I replace all files exept hsvg-real, hsvg and librsvg-2.so.2 from /opt/hfs11.1.201. And also while i was trying to solve the problem i created symbolic links in /usr/lib:
$ cd /usr/lib
$ sudo ln -s libdirectfb-1.2.so.9 libdirectfb-1.2.so.0
$ sudo ln -s libfusion-1.2.so.9 libfusion-1.2.so.0
$ sudo ln -s libdirect-1.2.so.9 libdirect-1.2.so.0
And it works!
$ cd /usr/lib
$ sudo ln -s libdirectfb-1.2.so.9 libdirectfb-1.2.so.0
$ sudo ln -s libfusion-1.2.so.9 libfusion-1.2.so.0
$ sudo ln -s libdirect-1.2.so.9 libdirect-1.2.so.0
And it works!
