Sorry for the bother. I'm willing to travel, pay, do online. I'm just hoping for some one-on-one guidance in understanding fluid animation. If you know of any resource, I'd be interested.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I'm in the need of fluid training. I could travel in the U.S./ Canada for a week or so for a training course, or set up a schedule with someone, maybe online for an hour a week for a couple of months of instruction. A more customized tutorial would also work? Unfortunately I don't know VEX. If this is interesting to you, let me know. I'm sure my company can make this a good fit.
Just this week, I'm starting the fluid course on Pluralsight. But I need, less about free flowing fluid, and more about pumping through spaces.
This is similar to what I need to be able to do…

I decided to try at home on my free version. It worked. Well the file opened at least. Not so sure that I understand just how to use it. But its a step in the right direction…

mestelaThanks! I tried this on a demo scene and it looked like it did what I needed. I'll give it a shot on the real file when I get back to work on Monday.
Assign materials before the pack, then unpack after the dopnet, the original materials and stuff should be restored.

I'll try the ctrl-middle click.
jsmackAs you noted that I could click on the ‘i’, but that is what I was doing. I'd click the ‘I’ and the info box would disappear before I could click the “display” option. Acted buggy.
ctrl-middle click to open info window without it closing instantly. Or if you have node rings enabled, you can click the ‘i’ on the left side of the ring.

Thanks mestela, especially for the demo file. I tried this, but unfortunately it makes everything into one material. In my file, I'm dropping a paint gun to the ground, but it is an assembly that has many parts, and many materials. It just won't do to have everything one color.
I wish the bullet solver could just treat the parts as a single part.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have an assembly of parts that I want to drop on a ground plane. They fall and bounce nicely, except that I need the assembly to stay in tack. Instead all the parts just fall apart. How do I keep them together?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Houdini Learning Materials » Dust from an impact tutorial

I've just recently gotten my company interested in actually purchasing a license of Houdini. My first project has an object dropping to the ground causing a shockwave of dust. The object lands with a thud, no damage or destruction.
I know basics with Houdini, but I'm not very familiar with FX. Can someone point me to a good tutorial, maybe make a sample scene, or give me pointers on the steps that I might need to work through. I don't need this to be movie quality, just decent.
Was thinking of maybe using the explosions and just trying to tweak it down a bit?
Thanks for any ideas!

Thanks for chiming in on this. I'll take a closer look at both of the examples. In this case though, my wedge was only a test. I'm using the boolean operation on a CAD file for a cutaway that will be staged at different angles. Knowing how to get the wedge working will be key for that to work well for us.
Thanks again!

I'm trying to setup a wedge to cutaway an object. I created the wedge with a box, blasted all but one side, and revolved the remaining poly. But when I use this as a boolean, it only cuts in seams. It doesn't delete the overlapping area.
Can you help me spot what I've done wrong.
Thanks!

Thanks so much! That answered my question perfectly and favorably too.
Sadly I wished I would have found that on my own, so as to not bother the forum.
As for the $400 and Coca-Cola, both hypothetical. Just the first things that came to mind.
Thanks!

So if I freelance, and only produce finished renderings and make less than a $1000 a year as a hobbyist, but Coca-Cola, wants me to do a 30 second rendering for $400, I can't, because they obviously make too much money?
Even though I'm completely independent?
Thanks!

Please let me know if there is someone that I can directly contact for a licensing question. I thought with our manufacturing company being outside of the video/movie/gaming industries, it might be better to address my question with the right individual instead of the forum in general?

Try setting your current user as Admin, under system settings, then try the install again.
Thanks for your advice. After several installs and this morning's reboot, everything just worked.

My install will just keep asking me to reinstall my free Houdini Apprentice License. I accept the license and ask the software to “Run” on the next dialog box. But it just loops back again.

That would be nice. Judging from the ICETree, I'm guessing you are from SoftImage decent? I never had the pleasure of trying that software out. My background is mostly C4d and Modo. Did a bit in MAX, but it didn't stick.
Your profile says that your from Australia. I just lost my last two weeks of sleep watching the Open.

I'm hoping to upgrade to Apprentice soon, but I'm bummed that I'll have to rebuild my model from scratch. Hope there is a way to import it?
