Hi gang, any reason why trying to use these primitive matches state Ill-formed sdfpath?
%closerthan:/cameras/camera1,10
%closerthan(/cameras/camera1, 10)
%fartherthan:/cameras/camera1,10
%fartherthan(/cameras/camera1, 10)
Funnily this works:
%bound:/cameras/camera1
But this doesn't:
%bound(/cameras/camera1)
Houdini 18.5.532
Thanks.

Disabling the 'edittransform' parameter seems to push the renders through.

Solaris and Karma » segmentation fault when cooking modify point instances

hello gang, I'm getting a segmentation fault whenever this scene file I have tries to render. I work in a studio with a sequence based workflow and in all other shots modifypointinstances works fine and doesn't cause problems but in two shots I'm constantly getting this segmentation fault.
Does anyone here have any tips to get around this? Currently I am setting the prune to delete but I've also tried hide. I've also just tried moving the instance by X units to get it out of frame but still goes to segmentation fault on the farm. Tried also moving the modifypointinstance nodes higher up the node tree and also vice versa lower down the node tree.
Is there another way I can move or alter an instance rather than through modifypointinstance node?
Thank you.

Solaris and Karma » multiple karma rendering in sequence?

jsmack
the fetch rop should work with the usdrender nodes inside the karma ops. Fetch rops can be chained together much like mantra rops or used with other flow control ops.
Alternatively, there's TOPs which has similar dependency abilities, but is less straightforward to put into practice.
Great thanks so much jsmack, I applied this and it worked.

Hello gang, I have multiple Karma nodes that I'd like to render. Previously I'd merge Mantra nodes and press the render button on the merge node but this isn't the same behaviour here. How would I go about rendering multiple karma nodes in sequence?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Mark WallmanGreat thanks Mark.
Hi. Your on the right track. Press alt on the keyboard when using light linker and it turns into shadow linker. Best
hold alt when moving objects into rules and you'll see the shadow icon instead of the light icon.

Hello collective, how's it done in LOPs?
I dug into lightlinker but I can only link lights and or objects to lights.
I have an object that has two lights on it but I only want shadows from one of the lights to be enabled while the other is off.
Thanks!

Have you followed the “Getting Started” section of the learning area on the main website?
http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=192&Itemid=351 [sidefx.com]
I recently started learning Houdini as I've had some downtime and found following and doing the above lessons to be hugely beneficial.
Also if you find you are having trouble creating something then you should start small and work your way towards your bigger goals.
Divide and conquer is a useful strategy when things just get to be too much.
Cheers.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » rendering slowness on evaluating python?

Hello!
I've been using vray for the past year and am now trying to learn Houdini/Mantra a bit by going through the “getting started” lessons.
I am getting some really slow render times as my test scene spends more time evaluating python more than anything else.
Is there something I can do here to speed things up? Looking at task manager it looks like my cpu usage caps at 15% when Mantra is rendering, is Mantra not able to utilize all of my cpu cores?
This seems a bit odd to me so I thought I'd ask the knowledgeable people on this board.
Thank you and I've attached my hipnc file here.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » emitting picture as colour for particles question

Hi I've been trying to learn Houdini at home by following this tutorials here:
http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1423&Itemid=132 [sidefx.com]
I've followed the tutorial very closely and brought in the image to my network however it seems that my point node is always cooking and taking a super long time to playback.
So I tried using tex instead of pic to bring the image in. It works in the sense that now the cooking is gone but it seems like it is stretching the edge pixel all the way across the grid.
I thought perhaps it's the expression I am putting into my point node which is causing this but I'm not sure.
This is the expression I'm using in the point node to indicate it should be adding this color to the particles in the R channel.
tex(“/Users/Sung/VFX/Robot Refs/muppet_man_02.jpg”, $BBX, $BBY, D_CR)
Would someone here be able to lend me a hand with this?
Thank you.
