Hello,
I cannot get dress Vellum Cloth work properly with the Collision Geometry . I have an animation of a woman walks down the stairs and upfront and goes into dancing - a pas de deux. the dress should be really simple, therefor I took one of the example-files as reference.
I set up the cloth, as in all the tutorials I've seen with planar patch but also tried a tube but nothing did work. The legs always goes through the dress - its not only intersecting - while she takes the steps (pic_a) and the dress stays in that shape. so it behind the legs for the rest of the simulation. I have one attach to geometry for the upper part and I added and additional one for the middle part but no matter how I set the stiffness or rest length the legs always come through. I tried to animate the stiffness like in tutorial on cloth production. But I could get it work.
Whats the best way to this?
Thank you.

thank you, these video-playlist is fantastic.
Are you planning to cover more shader-writing especially for NPR-Renderings?
I’m looking for some tuts on how to make painterly shaders like this one found here under: “Experimental: “Painterly” - http://www.lollipopshaders.com/case-studies/9to3animation/ [www.lollipopshaders.com]

hello,
I'm looking for tutorials for NPR - mainly painterly renderings. I'm looking for a look like in Loving Vincent [www.youtube.com]. Well guess what, I cannot afford myself so many real painters.
I'm reading trough some papers from Litwinowicz or Meier but I'm struggling to adopt the knowledge to houdini for shader creation.
Are there any tutorials on that topic?
Thank you.

Hello,
I'm following the Rigging Series and I stuck in the left arm part. when adding the ik with twist it doesn't work with the constraints network. I checked if the bones are straight, because the ik works without the constraints and the constraints without the ik solver.
I did excatly the same as. Mr. Goldfarb in the tutorial with the blendconstraints-node and so on.
is there any change from H16.5 to H17?
thank you

Hello,
I’m following the great cat quad-rigging series by bjørn blaabjerg sørensen and the blendshapes-files for the head (video 10) are missing. is it possible to get these files or are they somewhere for download? I couldn’t find them. it would be great to have them, to go along with the series.
Thank you

Hello, thank you all for the answers and the link is an interesting read. Maybe I should have pointed out, that I’m not a totally noob to Houdini even if I consider myself not even close to intermediate. I would say a beginner +. So I made the application animation for the school with Houdini.
Right now we do absolutely beginner stuff that I easily could rebuild in Houdini. I’m more concerned about the texturing and shading, this seems very different between the two. I still have no information about its possible or not.
ad mandrake0: what is discord?

Hello, may chime in with a slightly different question. I started an evening school for animation and multimedia, they teach Maya in the 3D-Classes, and honestly, I do not get along with it. However, for the final exam’s animation movie, we can choose the every software and my weapon of choice is be Houdini. While working fulltime and the school in the evening it is nearly impossible to learn Houdini (what I try since H9.0, but you know, live happens while…). Therefore, I asked the teacher, if I can use Houdini instead of Maya in the regular 3d-Classes
Well, there are three of them, one is against it, and the others are more open to this idea. They do not know Houdini at all, so they cannot help me at all. They asked about the way Houdini works with After Effects and Illustrator.
Since, I don't have any experience with this topic … Can someone briefly describe the main differences between the workflow between Houdini and Maya and the Adobe programs?
Thank you.

Hello,
first of all, I have a diffrent background and I work mostly with CAD-Applications. and I’m a Beginner in this 3D field – again – so I don’t have no own set-ups –yet. This is just simple Polygon-Modelling, for something I use the Houdini-way.
Therefore I can’t compare the modelling with other 3D-Programs and only by looking at the video I think, Cinema 4D is a little bit faster and some tools work better.
For Instance: Edge Flip Sop, while in the video the edge turns in the right way. In Houdini it didn’t work that way and I had to delete the Edge and use Polysplit instead to keep up the edge flow.
Really annoying is that the Edit Sop doesn’t align the handle to the primitive or edge and you have to do orientation picking very often and this sometimes seems a little bit buggy. There should be a better way. I know there is the peak but sometimes it’s not that what you want.
A Slide Node would be every nice and it should be multifunctional, otherwise it would blow up the network, which already is huge.
And there few things I have forgotten right know.
But after all I really like modelling in Houdini and seeing the “better modelling thread” I hope sidefx will improve it and it really needs an improvement.
Pz
By the way: here little progress.

Hello Chronon,
Thank you for your reply and the picture from Bammes. My Anatomy-Book is lacking some of this proportions information. After your hint with the bevelling I moved it up to match better with the templates and than progressed further in the process.
Sometime it’s hard to follow the videos because they don't have any sounds and so no explanation why something is done.

Hello,
after four or five years I have finally some time and decided to start learning Houdini again. For the start I work myself though all the tutorials I got/or bought back then, including a character modelling in 3DWorld Magazine Nr. 115 originally done in Cinema 4D. I know, I know following tutorials isn't great art and not worth a thread but since I'm all by myself and because the art of modelling is a little different in these two programs and therefore my model looks little different. So I thought, I needed some other opinions. I mean it looks good to me but maybe I'm something missing.
Any suggestions and comments are very appreciated.

PS: Still on Houdini 11.
