Hello everyone
I m a little stucked here on this commun issue to fixing the orientation of extracted curves which i want to polycap. I tried different things, polydoctor or facing don't help. My hope was to isolate in a loop each piece, do a sort, delete the extracted curves and rebuild then, but i guess i m missing something, maybe too long working days lately…. Anyone?
I attached a hip file
Thanks you

I see better, was too quick and being busy on my side working also an alien biological strange specie..
Can t you just add a resample after creating the connection line with curveu checked , change the attribute name, group that line so later you could split the two family of curves with corresponding uv value to control how thick you want, or more interesting where is your start and end so you will know where to build the tendril part?

Hola
If i didn t read too fast, you may want to compute the middle axis of the connecting points and doing a linear interpolation base on the curveu position.
Here's a simple example for you, hope it will helps you Palexs

Just a quick note, guys if you downloading the latest daily python 2 built, Maybe i'm unlucky to use have some sensitive nodes in my extensive file which use multiples setups, but it is crashing several setups built on 18.532. Not sure, the reason, the log file doesn't speak much. Never happened before so far

Impressive implementation Animatrix!
Everytime i see your custom python sexy interface and come back to the defaut houdini, i feel like driving an old car
Im confused by a couple of 2 things actually.
-The first one is the tittle of your video. I know VEx is multithread for sure, but does that mean the Houdini subdivide node in its current state is not? If it's the case, such an important node should really be, Sidefx if i could say…
- Did you implementation differ for *all* the current ones present in the subdivide node. I see you comparing to one or two
- At some point you do a local subdivision on a group of poly , but it look like it broke the surface tangent continuity.
Which should not be the case in the pixar renderman implementation i believe. But be you just have to recomput nomal but is it expected?

Hum… Another issue to mention, an important one, when saving a little bit before and when this issue happen, i could see my autobackup file size go down, from 178mb file its normal size for my library to 119 then 75mb… So i have no idea what it is goign on there but when it say saves successfull but the file size skrink by 2, success is hard to believe.
This is a serious problem here, and i thought i did a mistake has i have already observed this “lost” or “corruption”

While i gave up to have an answer why i have so much trouble with theH18 python 3 build, using regular python 2, at some point houdini start to mess up everything , canùt even open a primitive node to edit its parameters!?
Here's the message im getting on windows 10, nothing special to say i could think about in my setup or houdini installation, just im runnning 2 instances of houdini in the same time, not sure if it could be an issue or not. The scene has several setup merged in one. I uninstalling every other python application i coudl think about, miniconda, anaconda, blabla…
This is a random but repeating annoying issue.
Thanks you for your assistance

Presets are important to work fast and smoother, houdini has the best search node system, please do the same for the attribute wrangle presets, it s actually very annoying to scroll and look each line and each time a long list of wrangles i have already built to find the ones im interested..
Am i alone to find it annoying?
Did i missed something ?
Thanks guys

Can't even move the network box in the nodal panel, the viewport frequently refuses to refresh or at some point canùt simply rename nodes… There is something really weird going on here, would love to get more feedback what could be the issue; because i tried many build, uninstalled anaconda / miniconda, check my system env path, tried everything i could kind of imagine

Hey guys
I built something similar like the Unreal pixel depth offset dithering or one recent blender addon here, with customs breakup noise and ramp falloff. SOP –> wrangle in COP and back to SOP. But i lack the dynamic option since i have to specify the input to blend with, i guess i have to use python to have this input change dynamically for this and for now, im only blending 2 inputs at a time.
Obviously your ground can be made of many objects, with lots of other ones blending into then
Obviously, your ground can be made of many objects, with lots of other ones blending into them—assets just can’t straddle two objects and blend with both.
Is it possible to make this blend dynamic?
Sidefx, sorry to say but i have a lot of issue when injecting COP to SOP, to have my viewport been updated. Render is fine but viewport no. Is there a way to force the update?
Is there a way to collect in an array all geo around a certain radius distance for the asset and compute the blending value according, so with more than two assets? Even if its usally what you need…

Hi everyone, hopefully Sidefx team, i got several issue and a contant crash of a file i would like your suggestion how to deal with this problem.
- Download get-pip.py from (save as a file) and place it in your Houdini python37 folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 18.0.456\python37).
- Run windows cmd with admin rights and navigate to your python folder (e.g. cd “C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 18.0.456\python37”).
- Execute the command “python3.7.exe get-pip.py” and wait for pip to finish installing. pip.exe should now appear in the /Scripts folder.
- Execute the command “python3.7.exe -m pip install scipy” and wait for Scipy to install.
All good. But when launching Houdini i got this first error log:
An error occurred while validating an asset's license:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “<stdin>”, line 37, in set_up_pycrypto_imports
File “C:\PROGRA~1\SIDEEF~1\Houdini 18.0.566\python37\lib\site-packages\Crypto\Signature\PKCS1_PSS.py”, line 74, in <module>
from Crypto.Util.strxor import strxor
ImportError: DLL load failed: Le module spécifié est introuvable.
During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:

File “<stdin>”, line 19, in __enter__
File “<stdin>”, line 40, in set_up_pycrypto_imports
NameError: name ‘reload’ is not defined
Then many weird behavior. Then my setup keeps crashing. I attached the file
Is it a bug on your side, does someone has an idea?
Cheers

.. How to use scipy with anaconda 2.7 and custom houdini folder python 2.7? which files and folder to you merge and replace, keep and what to type to lets houdini know the lib package is installed? Gave a try before but give me back some success… Not really my confort zone… Not sure to understand why such a lib is not part of the houdini python base by default indeed..?

Rebus BRobotHeadArtKai Xu
In Anastasia Opara's excellent talk:
https://vimeo.com/228391688 [vimeo.com]
She demonstrated a very advanced procedural tree generation system without L-system. To achieve this advanced knowledge on vex and biology(On how a tree grows) is definitely required.
Exactly! Imagine that as native tools in Houdini that could also interact with the Terrain tools. You could have ecosystems that grow according to elevation/erosion/waterflow. SideFX could really give e-On a run for their money competing with Vue+Plantfactory.
Except that it is the role of an artist to study and learn and experiment and develop in their area of interest in order to make excellent art that addresses their needs. Houdini provides a huge workshop equipped with excellent tools to let them do that, not a widget factory with a showroom up front where you can order the thing you want and have it drop out the other side.
Really do not think SideFX is concerned with giving e-On a run for their money when their software is lightyears beyond what Vue is capable of creating. Thankfully the engineers are focused on the core elements of Houdini not studying botany. And no I am not some crusty Houdini veteran wizard in a high tower, I am a crusty Maya veteran in the dungeons who sees there is a better way and is looking forward mastering it so I can make whatever I want not just pick a nice tree from a list of nice trees… (Orbolt is for that.)
Cheers!
Totally agree with you. Only few hours using houdini one my 20 years , but i certaintly don t want it to become a mess of preset tools. You need to enjoy thinking procedurally and design solution from scratch by your own. You have to be patient to use Houdini at its full potential, and maybe you will never be able to. . That's why i love it
And if you are in doubt, ITùs not the tool which matter but what you could do out of it, i see amazing thing in C4d , Blender …

I download and install the daily python 3 tech preview by the launcher, installed is completed but inside there is still no python3 folder, only 2.7… I need it for Scipy and so
Is it a bug?
Note that i have also other houdini version installed and i do not want not to get rid of then .
Is it a bug? How could i manage to get it properly installed with python 3, i looked for options but can t see one on this point…
I off course download the right houdini install manager….
Is it not possible to just download the full package straight?
Cheers
