Store the attribute values in a new attribute. So to check the previous frames velocities you simply store v in a new attribute.
To do a area lookup for a value you create an “area” attribute and then add the current value to it on every frame. Most chops can be emulated this way, for the other stuff, I usually post process the simulation data, sometimes even in CHOPs.

Hey derrick.
Sorry, but I get pretty random results unless hair points matches the rest geo. Seems like it doesn't do any nearest point lookup between hair/rest geo. Also, by only inheriting one transform in the apply_transform VOP SOP you can't interpolate the results over a primitive.
I think the first issue can be fixed by doing a pointcloud lookup to get the `ptnum` value that goes into the translation in the apply_transform. The interpolation can then be resolved by doing the lookup a few times and blending.
Alternatively one can precompute the lookup phase in a more clever way and store the initial relationship between hars and rest geo in div attributes but this is kinda what barycentriccoordinates does (as in the link in my previous post).

Ahhh, I suspected I was missing something fundamental here. Thanks!
Just of curiousity, this seems like a pretty weird solution, is this how you would aproach the problem of unlocking a node? -getting the opset command and then extract whether or not the lock is on?

hey tamte
Because I want what's returned from the opget function, not the command that executes it:
/ -> set foo = opget -l /obj/geo1/file1
/ -> echo $foo
opget -l /obj/geo1/file1
the `opget` function returns a `opset` command and this is what I want to store in the variable. (what I originally needed is to query the lock state on an operator but then I ran into this thing)
Thx!

why do I get an error here?
/ -> set foo = `opget -l “/obj/geo/file1”`
Expression error: Syntax error - extra tokens detected in expression
When this works?
/ -> opget -l /obj/geo/file1
opset -l off /obj/geo/file1
shouldn't $foo be set to “opset -l off /obj/geo/file1”?

What are the basic algorithm structures of these CHOPs? A clearer explanation of their inner machinery is necessary if one are to use them. Thank you!

I can't type the dollar sign (and a few other symbols) with my swedish keyboard. It may be the Alt gr that is not working. I'm using WinXP.
Second, when I chose a MP3 with the fileIn in CHOPS Houdini chrashes. I know that it doesnt handle mp3 but it would be nice if it checked for compatibility before trying to load.
Thx guys!

sounds logical. Thx man!
But it sounds like you should run into situations where you risc messing up you're coloring? Shouldn't there be a more straight forward solution?

I want to map particle attributes to a ramp as with you do with the color node. How do I do the same with “mass” for instance?
Thx

if you have a cylinder the result would be a circle, for a cube a rectangle.

that leads me to selection number two, I can't search in the help, the search tab is blank.
But thanks for the answer. As I understand you cant edit the group members by selection tools?

I try to put certain points in a group. Sometimes I'm able to do it but I don't understand how. Can someone guide me?
Getting really frustrated at houdinis selection procedures. Thankfull for any answers or tips of selections tutorials.
