this has been removed in H16.
The documenatation is just not updated because I guess almost nobody will use houdini for look dev in the state it is.

thanks for your reply. I did not yet submit a bug but will do so after further testing. It might be worth mentioning that I am using a wacom tablet and have no mouse to test.

After some more testing it seems you can only slide edges now? It seems like a step backwards.
Since you can switch to Point Selection mode it seems like a bug. I hope some of the Staff will respond and take more closer look at the Edit SOP. I really like doing poly Modelling in Houdini otherwise but the quirks here and there all the time can be getting annoying. Sometimes it feels not all parts have been tested enough prior to release. Which in return makes a lot of parts feel unpolished.

Hi,
how does the Slide on Surface work in H16.5? I cant seem to get it working.
When I switch to Slide mode I cant select any points or do anything. When I toggle selection mode with S I can select points but no Handle appears or anything. Switching Slide Mode also does not help.

After some more tests I noticed that the Brush Tools dont work correct on Unclosed Geometry. After doing polyfill the brushes lift option and surface brush work. Smooth brush still seems to have issues and I miss Wacom Pressure options to control strength etc. (I know can customize the wrangles inside the guidegroom) But there should be some better default artist friendly options.
Also I Hope one day houdini will get a real brush engine instead of faking things with the stroke SOP, The paint SOP could need some optimization too, espcially for wacom tablets. It feels very limited and clumsy to change settings etc.

Maybe it just takes some time to get used to but i also feel the steps seem way too big when close to an object.

Hello!
Anyone else having issues getting the Hair Brush Tools to work correctly?
I am trying to groom my guides with the Brush Tools but I have a lot of issues working with the Brush Tools:
- Lift Brush doesn't seem to work in most cases? How can I lift hair guides from the skin?? It doesnt seem to work for me.
- The Surface Brush pushes hair inside the skin surface instead of keeping it over the skin surface?
- The Lift Option has no effect in any of the Brush Tools?
- No Settings or effect by using a Wacom Tablet? The Brush settings feel very limited.
- Smooth Brush is painfully Slow and doesnt seem to work on guides at all? (cooks forever…)
Really having a hard time doing grooming in an artistic way with the Brush Tools in the state they are atm. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

But this is not snap. I have same experiences for RFE that is just be given an work around without record RFE.

I think I RFE this some time ago too but cant find the RFE ID unfortunately. In general the snapping functionality within the viewport could be more polished overall.
Also not a big fan of using middle mouse as a workaround when it can be done better.

Check Near and Far Clipping Parameters on the cam SOP under the View tab. Put smaller value in Near Clipping.

You need to swap the -90 angle so the cross section has the angle set to -90 and leave the backbone texture angle at 0.
The backbone needs to be in U direction and the Cross Section in V.
Not sure why the sweep doesnt like it the other way around tbh. I thought i have seen it work the other way.

You can also find your presets in Tools -> Show Tool Palette
Then you can also drag and drop your nodes in there.
The gallery can also have subcategories and you can search in it by typing. Its very useful to store your presets. We use it every day and it saves a lot of typing and looking up expressions, transform presets etc.
The presets will also show up in the gear menu from the Parameter Pane.

Mantra has a curvature lens built in. You only need to expose the parameter on your Camera.
Select the Camera -> Click the gear icon and -> Edit Parameter Interface
Go to tab Render Properties
Search for Curvature and under View -> Lens Curvature (vm_curvature)
Select it and click the arrow icon to add the parameter. Click Accept.
Under the View tab of the Camera you should now have a Parameter for Lens Curvature. Put it to 0.1 or something and render to see the result.
edit: just realize i am not sure if the vm_curvature can get the result you are looking for.

use partition SOP to partition the geo based on the class attribute with Rule:

The Connectivity sop should just outputs an attribute starting at 0. So there should be no need to turn on local variables? Or am I missing something?
