Ah I missed that about the X,Y,Z being a custom space…
My matrix math is a bit rusty but give this a shot:
vector V = set(your_x, your_y, your_z);
vector av = array(X,Y,Z);
vector cur_space = ({1,0,0}, {0,1,0}, {0,0,-1});
vector cam_space = (normalize(vtransform(“space:camera”, cur_space)),
normalize(vtransform(“space:camera”, cur_space)),
normalize(vtransform(“space:camera”, cur_space)));
/*since both the vectors are orthonormal you only need to retrieve one rotation*/
matrix3 mat = dhideral(cam_space, av);
vector Vnew = vtransform(V, mat);
If it doesn't work, could you post your hip file?

Try this piece of code:
vector av = array(X, Y, Z);
matrix A = maketransform(0, 0, av, av, av2]);
vector res = vtransform(V, A);
vector av = array(X, Y, Z);
matrix A = maketransform(0, 0, av, av, av2]);
vector res = vtransform(V, A);

it should be in your $HOME/houdini directory (on linux) and probably in Document and Settings\username\houdini on windows.

What happens when you turn of normalize cross section? Does it produce better results? Everything works fine here…

What's wrong with the idea of using the cookie sop? It works. You don't need the refine sop, it just adds an useless amount of extra points. Also just use the A - B option, that way your normals inside the box are correct.
If you want the letters to go all the way through you can use the hole sop. See attached file.

Wolfwood,
what's the culprit from keeping people to write BSDF's using vex and the hdk? (Gory technical details, please!)
Cheers,
Hans

Hi Oat,
there seems something wrong with the way your attributes were created. See the attached files for ways to fix or work around it…Let me know how you created the attributes and if you have any custom variable mappings.
Cheers,
Hans

Dxf is generally a messy format to work with imho. I don't know if you can export from your cad program to any other format? (Obj, FBX?) Else there is an option to invest some money in polytrans (http://www.okino.com/default.htm). [okino.com]

Peter,
I am getting one next week and a a friend of mine has one running so if you mail me the IFD then I am happy enough to pass it on and make him do some benchmark tests

Just try to make a setup and if you are stuck post your hip file so others can tinker with it or give you suggestions to improve it.

James, the next time they deliver a model first clean it up a bit (or let them clean it up a bit). As Tamte correctly pointed out, the scale is very small and that poses some problems. In the fuse node the tolerance is 0.001 you might need to set that to 0.0001 You should place the fuse sop after the cookie.
Also move the uv texture and uv edit to the end of the chain in the scapula node. Set the material on the object node material tab and not inside the object itself.

check this out, think you tried to use the bounding box technique too and it is the way to go….

James, out of curiousty, you imported the model from a ply file or a pointcloud? Or did someone deliver the model to you?

On your fist setup you used the object merge wrong. There is no geometry being pulled in.
Have a look at the attached file.

When you see airplanes pass over, the trail (which of course isn't real smoke) fades after some time by mixing with other gases, cooling down (or heating up). Anyway it becomes less dense. So to make your meteor more realistic you could add some effects to accomplish that.
Anyway, well done!
