Hey,
It would be useful to have ability to assign custom names to pane tabs in addition to paths. For example I have several tabs in one pane. One tab contains DOP sim, another one some SOPs, third has POPs inside and so on. So I would like to give them names. Instead of /obj/geo1/popnet3 I would like to see “Sand sim”. And actually doesn't matter what kind of network will be inside that tab. This is just an idea how to make UI a bit more informative.

Hey Jacob,
Bake out velocity field and do volumesample() in POPs. Easy and simple… In this way you can control amount of sampled velocity, you can mix it with DFN and so on.

2. I can be wrong but Mantra procedurals work on per-object basis so you can try to create material with procedural inside it and then assign that material using Material SOP but it has no sense.

This book is interesting even if you'll never write your own renderer. And sure you can apply the maths from this book to some of your shaders. Chapter about volumetric stuff is pretty cool

I know what I'm doing, and having ‘played’ with it I knew where to start.
Sounds like a bad joke

You could forget that spritescale attribute is not a vector but three floats. Check it.

… or even the last opened operator code section!
(If I open, for code inspection, VEX GI Light shader and then create new shader via File->New Operator, first thing I see is a VEX GI shader code inside my new operator definition, not always, just from time to time.)
Yes, I've seen this too. Looks weird

When you create a new operator (VEX/Python) you expect to see automatically created template code. But sometimes (actually behaviour depends on build and OS) Houdini just show you an empty code section. ops:

Hey guys,
Try to remove several frames from MPlay and do Save sequense. Mplay propose to save the same number of frames as it was before removing. Probably most of the people expect to see N number less frames.

Should Houdini cook subframes in the case of velocity motion blur and could it be done via pixel shaders? I believe it's possible

you may not even notice a difference until the scene starts using significant amount of resources.
I can't agree. You can notice a big difference even with empty scene. How Houdini works with panes, tabs etc. I'm even not talking about bugs under Windows. Memory allocation errors your best friends
Technical Discussion » RFE: Interpolation options in File SOP

Write from File SOP is a different thing. In this case the problem could be solved using ReadFile SOP and… Well we already have ROP output drivers so why do we need WriteFile SOP? But subframes and point caches seems to be a quite logical extension to File SOP. But if we want to be minimalists we have to forget about a half of operators in Houdini because they are duplicate each other. Like Delete SOP and Blast SOP. Could TimeBlend SOP be recreated from existing operators?

I'd like to have an options inside a File SOP which allow you to calculate interpolated subframes in one click.
