How far did you get with this in the end? I only just found this thread I am currently doing something very similar (trying to make a version of the bricker plugin for blender as a learning project) and had the exact same problems you did with doing the loops. It was a real headache figuring out the right combination of feedback and merging and iterating. The hardest bit was removing points from the iteration feedback but keeping them for the final copytopoints
From reading this it sounds like we both used the same approach, iterating over a bounding shape within the volume and tagging points! I wish I had read this thread when I started tho…
I currently have a library of 12 rectangular bricks. But I am working on the next part of the network which is adding slopes and flat tiles on the top and bottom of the model.
If you want to see some shots then I can post some in progress ones.

Ok I found a command called ‘pcline’ which was good for this. I got all the points in a row (0,1,0) with current point into an array then checked their distances against current point with a cutoff search distance. Then got the sign of P.y against checked point P.y to decide whether it was above or below that point. Worked pretty well after a bunch of faffing with vex syntax (I'm sure it will get easier one day !

Hi, I have a point volume that I need to be able to select the points that are facing up and down i.e. any point that doesn't have a point directly above or below it in the grid spacing (see attached image) I'm not sure if there's any way to search with a direction vector for a given point? Like for each point check to see if there is a point directly above or below in the next grid spacing in a directional vector (0,1,0 or 0,-1,0) Or any other way that exists that this could be done?

Yeah it's part of a larger setup that's starting to get pretty messy! It's just a thing I wanted to learn as I plug away on the bigger scene I ultimately want to use a iteration value in it in the bigger scene.

Ok I found an old post that said you need backticks around the expression! I Think that's what was wrong, adding the backticks around it all seems to have done the trick

I'm trying to copy an object to a specific point but I'm not sure of the syntax I need here (or if this is the right way). I want to specify a point to copy to. I set up a detail attribute with a single int value and thought I could reference this in the copytopoints node but nothing I try seems to work. This is a scene I setup just to try to get this bit to work, but I cant figure it out. If I type a number in the detail expression it will do it fine so it makes me thing I got the syntax wrong?

The Orbolt Smart 3D Asset Store » Can't launch anything from orbolt

Everytime I try and launch the asset from their webiste I just I get this error
I have no idea what any of that means - so then I downloaded it manually. Bought the license for the correct version I am using. When I try to install it I get another error.
'Couldn't add library to …. to scanned asset library directories
No license file found for asset.'
Then I tried a free asset(equalizer) downloaded it, put it in the asset_store folder and it worked fine but when I try and run the paid one it's having none of it. I tried the trial of it too and even that won't install.
Any help is much appreciated

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Group points in volume by set pattern?

Hi, I want to do a lego type effect similar to the bricker plugin for blender and I'm wondering if there is a way to do it with nodes?
Basically I want to import a mesh, turn it to a volume and then replace the points with bricks. Now on a 1x1 brick I think I have that working. I had to set the volume to Non-square as the 1x1 brick isn't a cube and then extend the boundaries so it dsoesn't break when I use another object. But what I really want to do is to start to substitute larger bricks (2x2, 2x4, etc) where they will fit - and then work my way down and fill in the gaps with the 1x1 last. I'm not sure if there are nodes that can do this type of thing that already exist?
….Or if I am going about this totally the wrong way…!
Here is a screenshot of what I got right now, it's about as basic as you can get so any help is appreciated

@Rocksteadyop - Yeah you won't find it under the old name anymore.
Turn on the shelf called ‘SideFxLabs’ and press the update toolset (you might need to restart to see the icons) Then if you press tab in the node graph and type ‘Lab…’ you'll see all the new nodes.

I restarted and the shelf is there now, am I right in thinking that all the tools have been renamed to start with ‘Labs’ in the name?

Hi I'm having problems rendering with the cylindrical camera. I have a camera right in the centre of the scene, surrounded by a cloud volume. Rendering with polar camera where it is works fine but switching to cylindrical just gives me a super stretched image. Anyone know what I have to do to get the camera working right? I can't find anything in the help.

Hi all, another noob question here but I swear I've tried everything with this and looked everywhere for the answer. I have a attribute called ‘red’ that comes from a vertex colour red channel, then I manipulate to get a value that I want to use as an extrude multiplier (eventually). The question is how do I access it in an expression (for instance in the ‘extrude distance’ field)? I tried just typing ‘red’, ‘@red’, and just about everything I can think of. The value seems to be there in the spreadsheet, I just don't know how to get to it!
Any help greatly appreciated!!

Ok, after a bit of trial and error I seem to have gotten a better result by scaling out the cutter objects away from the building by a certain margin. Not sure why that worked but it seems to have fixed it in every case!

I tracked back a bit and noticed when I turned off the ‘transform with point orientations’ on the copytopoints it worked fine, thing is I do need them to face the right way. So maybe it's not related to the boolean…?
