I am just playing around in houdini, and I messing around with the lighting, and I do not have acrobat installed on this machine, need to do that, and I was wondering if there was a way to disable or turn a light off temporarily so i could see what the scene would render without the light; i dont want to delete the light just turn it off to see what the rest of the lights are doing in the scene, it would be nice to see this in opengl and rendered out.

well houdini being able to run on all the major platforms except for mac.
i guess it would be nice to see an OSX version of houdini, and I mean I want nice clean looking gui with new icons. other than that I really can not think of anything that houdini does not have, of course i feel that i know only about 10% whats going on under the hood. i am not sure if mantra supports global illumination or not but that would sure be nice to see. but don't quote me on that.
cheers

Hello,
I have just a simple question here.
I have both Houdini 5.5.36 and Houdini 5.5.143 installed, and I am no guru by any means, but i was just curious as to how i know which version is the most current of the two. and i was also curious if i could use the same non commercial license on both versions.

Hello to all:
This being my first offical post in this forum, I am rather excited about this
whole Apprentice idea sidefx is doing. <thumbs up guys and gals @ houdini> Okay this is my promblem.
I sucessfully got houdini 5.5.36 apprentice working on my workstation at work. Do not blame me, I did not get to pick out this computer. Houdini seems run fine and dandy for now on this box. I have not done much work on it yet, but I have not had any problems other than the redraw of menus and applets but given that I that the box only has intergrated graphics  so I can not complain.
Well my friend gave me a Dell laptop c600, and I have playing around on it for some time now, and I thought it would be nice to get houdini 5.5.36 up and running so when I go to my local coffee shop I will have something
to do besides play around in photoshop [not that I do not mind playing
around in photoshop]
Well I just tried installing Houdini on this laptop and I get hkey.exe has generated errors when trying to get an apprentice license. FYI this laptop is a p3 1gig with 256mb ram 8mb video = the same as the demension 4500s It is currently running windows 2000 SP2 with all the latest drivers and fixes.

i did a dependecy check with dependency walker 2.1 on hkey.exe and everything seemed all right. i just do not understand why it is crashing.

Just my two cents on the recompression of the video files.
I would like to see the video compressed using the divx codec, because when I use Linux divx plays very well with the Xine player. I know for a fact that quicktime is not natively supported in Linux, but there is a plugin you can buy from codeweavers. :-( I think quicktime is allright on Macs and pc's, but I do not think there is a person who has gotten quicktime to work on a MIPS processor, so I would stick with DIVX, which I do think is compatible with MIPS, because I have the PS2 linux dev kit and I think I remember someone saying they were able to play a movie on it, and the PS2 is a MIPS processor, so I do not see why DIVX would not run on Solaris or IRIX.
but that's just my 2 cents
