i don't know the metal api but when it's not compatible to open gl api or vulkan then i have the feeling the efforts for the tool developers are getting more complex. so i find it's bad news.

what i know there is no support for 3dconnexion mouse.
you can make a RFE like that sesi will know that there is more interest for the 3d mouse.

I think SideFX will loose A LOT of customers if Indie Customers are forced into using only Mantra and not standalone or plugin 3rd party renderers…

(Mantra is a great renderer, but it's as old as most people in here's moms (not as old as my mom though)…

the concept of mantra with vex was and is the way to go. because vex gets compiled with llvm it's just a matter of time till it get's a opencl support and then a lot of nodes will be also gpu supported on the fly. i hope that opencl 2.0 will be the api that can be used for vex but i'm not 100% sure. you also can see that the last couple of years all efforts for new nodes in houdini has shifted to vex, only the core nodes and functions are c++.

btw. opensl uses also llvm for the compilation of the shader code so it's today the way to go. not bad for a mom :-)

i playing at the moment with nurbs and i find it's not perfect or i make a mistake or it's both :-)

i made a test file where are two surfsect nodes used to cut a nurbs surface. at some point it works but when it gets shifted it fails.

if there are tutorials for nurbs modeling in houdini it would also help :-)

when will be the vex file operators released?

i made a simple vex based stl exporter and it would be cool to test it on big meshes. :-)

or are there other possibility's for reading the string values in python?

use micropolygon renderer for volume and put the volume quality to a value range 0.8 - 1.0.

have you seen the tutorials in the archiv?

Thank you for you help. That did the trick. Has this been the workflow for a while, or since Houdini 14?

you also can use Parameter VOP and set to export for exporting the parameter values. since when the bind export is the way to go….. i can't tell…

I'm trying to create a random pscale using the attibvop

however my random numbers just all end up being the same.

Any solution?

the Add Attribute had a small note: “This does not change the attribute values. To change the value of the currently processed element, see the Bind Export VOP.”

you have to use the bind export node and then it should work :-)

1. a Public RFE System where you can add a RFE Proposal and discuss the RFE with others.

2. integration of a forum to the houdini help system. there are a lot of community help files on the forums on odforce or sidefx forum. it would be nice if there is a way to have it in the houdini support system as community marked help files with links to the forum.

the price you can see in the node itself:

ROP > HQueue Render NODE > Cloud TAB

it shows the hour rate so it won't give you a rate of the scene itself.

well to make a grate modeler it requires quiet some work and that sesi is doing. we have seen updates in modeling and animation. there are still missing features that will simplifies the work for the artist but over all most function are build-in.

when you are a indie houdini is cheap and when you use it as backend or as a add-on you get a lot for you money.

btw: sesi has proven quiet some years that there release are good upgrades. autodesk has just proven that this version of max is a good release. the last ones where a bit thin….
