perhaps you have the current geometry display enabled in the settings? It is enabled by default. It is useful in certain situations and a hindrance in others. I have set hotkeys for myself to turn this function on/off.

It sounds weird, very weird. As if an artist ran into one room, looked at the posers, ran into another room to draw, ran back into the first room, looked and checked, didn't like it - ran into the second room where the canvas was and changed the drawing. It looks very stupid in real life, right? In real life - you look and change. In one place. Actually, in many programs it's exactly like that too.

Out of frustration.
Recently I made a large scene in blender with hundreds of materials and hundreds of objects. And there are a lot of objects, the hierarchy got out of control, and I sat and dreamed - that's it, it's time to study Solaris, there the hierarchy is stricter. And indeed, so far it seems to me that the hierarchy in Solaris could have been more convenient then. But I had to change a lot of materials a little both inside and in the arrangement, add something, subtract something. And now I'm trying to understand how I would solve those problems with reassigning materials in Solaris and I understand that it is unrealistic (for my knowledge). I would just go out the window (joke), if I had to edit the arrangement of materials through SOP and Python. I don't pretend to know the truth, I'm searching and maybe I don't understand or don't know all the processes in Solaris... But for now the logic eludes me - in the lop you see the materials, but you can't easily change their arrangement. And in the sop you can easily choose a new arrangement, but you don't see the materials. Will these two ships ever meet at one point?

Oh my god, here's my moment of shame - I didn't know about the "Ctrl + Alt + Shift + click on menu items there to jump to their entry in the hotkey editor." This is pretty cool.

Guys, who understands Solaris, are there any?
A couple of important questions.
How can I select subsets in Solaris to understand where they are?
Is it possible to edit subsets to add/remove polygons?
What is the idea of the developers, if I am not happy with the location of the material and want to add several polygons to the location of the material? export to sop - redo the groups, export to lop and set everything up again? This even in words looks dead.

how to set and align the c-plane to the center of selected points?
There is no problem to set the c-plane to the center of the polygon. But often you need to set the c-plane to the center of a hole or completely unrelated points.
Is it possible to do this?
What I found - 1) I can set the c-plane to the center of the selected points, but the orientation will be completely arbitrary. 2) I can turn on the advanced mode and set the c-plane to the correct plane by three points, but then the c-plane will jump to the middle point and will not be in the center. That is, either the correct position, or the correct orientation.
Does anyone know a way to set the c-plane to the center of the selected points and set the orientation to the average normal of these points?

So, for the test I create a simple shader. Right-click - save to gallery. The default file name is Custom.gal in the settings folder. The file grows when adding materials, that is, the recording occurs.
And I set the gallery of materials to show the name of the gallery files. Add gallery, select Custom.gal and .... nothing. The materials from it do not appear in the gallery. What is wrong? What was intended by the developers?

1. Obviously, these buttons are too important and determine what the viewport and all the other buttons work with.
2. It's not clear what you're talking about here at all. About the grid step? What do your drawings refer to?

Does anyone understand and can explain how this damn "Shear" works? To get the right shift, I rotate the pivot every time, try to enter values in different axes. Sometimes I manage to get the right shear, sometimes not, even after trying all the pivot turns.
X, Y, Z carry some unknown function, completely unrelated to the world X, Y, Z.
Even a year later, I have not managed to figure out the principle of choosing the "Shear" direction. Are there people who understand this? Write, please!

I also get very annoyed by the pointless remaining selection, in which nothing is visible.
there is a simple solution - make the edges more contrasting (darker or lighter) on the selection, so that they are clearly visible. But sidefx usually does not stoop to such trifles as the comfort of the user's eyes. So maybe in Houdini 40...

SideFX in version 20 introduced many cardinal internal improvements, which should lead to a noticeable increase in productivity, as I understood from the streams. And all the plans look very tasty, but apparently the new configurations turned out to be too buggy. And they are debugging them little by little. Let me remind you that the unnoticeable for users rewriting of SOP took several years and led to a cardinal improvement in speed. So the work is underway.

I had to give up the 4k monitor and switch to 2k, on which the Houdini interface looks fine.

in more detail, the crash occurs when adding a sculpt to any open curve from any source. For example, take a circle and add a sculpt - everything works. Break the circle with "ends" and add a sculpt - crash.

What do you mean by setting panel, parameter editor ?
This is a low priority, I just wanted to remind you while it's still fresh.
In the video, I do Ctrl+Shift+Wheel in the viewport (I get 0.001) and in the parameters, there is 0.01.
And then I spin the wheel and Ctrl+Wheel on the slider. The slider moves, there is no reaction. The reaction appears if you click on the slider. Clicking in the viewport does not give a reaction or resets the slider.
Yes, it's windows 11.
