I just want to gauge what RAM usage should generally be with Copernicus. I tried it out to generate a 4k texture and it filled 60GB pretty quickly. I also can't seem to unload that cache when not using COPS.
Is it normal to eat up so much RAM so quickly?

How would one go about working with non 1:1 textures in COPS? I have non uniform which I want to rasterize and create a matching texture but so far things are not looking great. I don't see how I can start from the bounds of the geometry, crop is not working as expected... is there a workflow I'm missing for this?

Here is what I mean:
When I align nodes their spacing is too small, I would like to be able to align nodes more like the grid spacing shown.
When I say align I mean aligning the nodes with the A key.

I have two basic questions regarding the node editor:
1. is the default spacing of nodes configurable? For example when you align nodes, where is that spacing defined vertically / horizontally?
2. is there an option to delay the middle mouse node info window? When navigating big networks with middle mouse butotn I get crashes if instead of panning it tries to display the node info window

Just two quick questions that pop up everytime I see Houdini's UI:
1. is there a particular reason as to why the first 3 buttons here have a different look than all other buttons on the toolbars around the viewport?
2. is there also a reason why these two have different widths?

Does anyone know how to use this node? What type of input does it expect?
PCA is a common technique used in data-driven Character Customization Tools etc. Here is a description standard model from the ICT-Lab:
What is a Linear 3D Morphable Face Model?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlGkzFeyCYc [www.youtube.com]
This node has three modes:
Analysis
- takes in samples of geometry (data) with the same # points but deformed over time or variants of shape
- computes Principal components for the number of components you specify
Project - Projects sample of geometry into the PCA constructed from the Analysis, returning coefficients
Reconstruct - Constructs geometry from coefficients the PCA analysis defined, returning geometry
It is like finding the parameters to slide to change a geometry based on understanding the right parts of the geometry to influence.
It is demoed in the MLDeformer project on the SideFX example project site here:
https://www.sidefx.com/contentlibrary/ml-deformer/ [www.sidefx.com]
Hey, thanks for the detailed answer. This node does an enormity of an entirely different thing than what I thought it did.

I was playing with those .hcs files trying to change animation curves editor colours for more looking like in MAYA but man... its such a chaos in nameing convention and everything.
Main problem was that i had to edit color values, save file and then restart Houdini wich was time consuming.
But mayby there is easiest way for updating changed colors on UI immediately?
Using VEX command or perheps Python?
Anyway i wish that there was something like in Zbrush where you can play with every UI paremeter color and set it like you really like. (With realtime feedback on screen)
You can save the file in your text editor and then hit reload in color settings in Houdini and it will update. No restart requiered.

I also seem to be affected by this. However I need to test more, so right now I'll file it under 'subjective'.
But one thing that struck me was the Houdini overall start up time. It now feels a tad slower than before.

Can anyone identify which properties in the .hcs file define the border for:
1. this right hand border?

2. text color for these inactive tabs?

Same here.
Is it possible to animate the blending of several animation layers in Houdini ?
I'm trying to figure out how to use animation layers, and it seems it's only possible to disable or enable a layer.
When I animate the layer weight of my second layer nothing happens. I set it to "1" on the first frame, and to "0" on frame 25, but only the value of the first keyframe seems to be accepted.
Is there some secret trickery involved to make this work ? Because when I check the manual this should work.
Thanks.
This is still happening in 20.5, I've just tried it on my scene.

Does anyone know if the scene with the locomotive rig is available anywhere?
Technical Discussion » Simple acceleration of linear animation values

Is there a way to add acceleration in Houdini over a hand made animation or expression?
Let's say I want something spinning at 10 rpm or traveling at 0.5m/s, it would be easy to animate this by hand or define an expression.
But if I want to gradually arrive at this cruise speed -how would I go about introducing acceleration?
I've tried to experiment with CHOPs by multiplying this linear value with an animated channel but I'm not arriving at the desired result.
