Two of them.. I got a bit lost in houdini…

I attached both file and model (model is made by www.selwy.com [selwy.com] )

1.
Simulation suddenly changes speed rapidly in 11th frame, and speeds up too much… How to make that change gone? I'd like to be just a bit faster/more explosive in the beginning, but slower towards the end.

2.
How can I control the timing/lenght of sim? To specify beginning phase, middle one, and final when pieces are getting out of camera?

So, as you can see, some guidance is needed

Thanks in advance

dj.

uh, 1000 questions… :?

something strange happens… just like that… brake stops functioning and reports errors… here's a quick screenshot.

If I close the scene I'm working on and open a new empty one, lay down a geometry sop (plane, tube, box) whatever… and after I apply break everything messes up and disappears.
If I quit houdini, and do the same steps everything goes without a problem.

Am I missing something or this is some buggy behavior?

ok, I got the point… stickies are very helpful thanks… now, how can make rbd fracture object (torso in my case) stays in place till impact. I am trying to find that in docs but no luck..

and one more thing: how to make geometry faces become separated peaces of geometry (instead of using several breaks)?

oh, yes, I used various examples trying to figure things out, so maybe something is left behind… but the setup with a human torso is the one I am trying to make.

I hope it makes more sense now.

… I am trying the thing with groups and glue strength right now….

ok, I think I finally get it, and I need some help now.

When my internet connection is on (wi-fi):

1. houdini is starting up for minute or two
2. importing-exporting low/mid res geometry (obj files) also takes some time (around minute);
3. mantra window starts up for long time also

then, when I turn off wi-fi this is what happens:

1. houdini starts up in few seconds;
2. import-export also lasts several seconds;
3. mantra starts up right away;

so, I wisely 8) concluded that something related with a wi-fi connection and/or os x's way of handling network connections is messing with houdini.

I use littlesnitch to control network trafic, and everything in relation with houdini has “allow all” rules applied (houdini, license manager…)

Any thoughts? It's h10 (production build), os x 10.5.6…

I am trying to make a setup for shatter effect, but I am missing something since, all pieces stick together no matter what I do.

Here's a file, if someone can give an explanation I'd be thankful.
h10.0.249, os x

thanks in advance

thanks…
but, you could consider some kind of hqueue version for hd users… I bought a license with an idea to develop my short film in houdini, and having a possibility to use more than one computer for rendering/sim calculation would be very nice… but I do understand that there must be a difference between non-commercial and commercial features… so, don't take this as a ranting,
just wishing

Well, that's how I did it, mac os X 10.5.6…

Unpacked downloaded dmg, opened pkg, and went through the installation and got the spinning ball and nothing… Then I disabled internet connection, run setup again and everything went fine…

Then, every time I first start houdini upon the os boot, if my wireless internet connection is up, it'd take few minutes of spinning ball, and error connecting to hserver message in the end… When I shut down wireless, Houdini starts normally. If I for some reason quit houdini session and then start it again with wireless on… everything goes fine.

I have firewall setup with rules allowing hodini, hserver and license config to connect to internet/sidefx..

So, maybe if you shut down your internet connection un-installation will end fine…

Or it's just my crazy computer :roll:

So the exciting question is:
Will it be possible for us hd license owners to use benefits of distributed fluid sim?

(I hope so much that answer is yes )

Houdini Lounge » Hodini to zbrush?

in general it goes like this:

0. make uv map
1. export model from houdini as an obj file.
(in geometry level select your geometry, right-click -> save geometry as, then choose obj)
2. import obj to zbrush and sculpt
3. generate displacement maps
4. export maps and obj
5. import obj in houdini
6. setup displacement shading network in houdini
7. apply shader to model
8. render

If it's more or less straightforward depends if you're more or less familiar with houdini.

You can find good tutorial about setting up displacement here (odforce):

Imported obj file contains geometry only, and rigging process should be pretty straightforward. So, could you elaborate a bit about problems you encountered?

Same thing is with fbx. If you export/import geometry data only, rigging process should be straightforward…
