Thank you for the reply Steve. I have 4gb so I could probably afford to do this. Now, when I render this out to a movie file will it run choppy like that or will it run smoothly? Thanks.

Is realtime playback switched on?
Yes I have toggled it both on and off. It does the same thing only faster or slower…its like the first 25 frames or so run like its solving (a stock fluid sim) then after that it runs very smooth. Another example is like the playback running the first 25 frames at 15 fps then the rest running at 60fps..its pretty strange.

I am currently running a simulation with the pyrofx and the first 25 frames or so of my sim run choppy like its simulating then the rest of it runs smooth like its already cooked. Even after letting it simulate multiple times it does this. Even if I write it to a file node it does this. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I was just wanting to know what I should read up on to get a finished simulation rendered and created into an actual video that I could upload on a website or save onto my computer. Could someone help me with documentation or information on doing this? I wasnt exactly sure and have been looking in the tutorials to try to find something but couldnt find it. Advice or a link would be amazing. Thanks everyone.

I have tried looking in the documents forever and cannot find it. It says its on the dynamics level but I have checked and checked and no find. I have also looked a level up in the pyrosolver but didnt see it. I am trying to cause my pyro simulation to emit smoke at a much faster rate, like a large explosion. The smoke rises too slow for the default parameters. Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated. Thank you.

Edit: I found it, thanks anyway.

tamte
no, it is on pyro solver, Sources Tab/Emitters Tab
there are few parameters you can play with smoke amount, fuel amount, emit smoke, emit fuel
You are the man!!! You have made my day. Thats exactly what I was looking for.

…I want the object that is emitting the simulation to stop emitting the smoke and flame…
Hairston
you can keyframe Activation parameter on Source Relationship DOP (usually the last node if you have set up sim from shelf)
or if you are using pyro, you can keyframe smoke amount as well
Is the smoke amount the same as soot smoke amount found in the simulation tab of the pyro? I didnt see that particular parameter.

I did try the gas dissipate but it causes the actual motion of the smoke and flame to fizzle out. I want the object that is emitting the simulation to stop emitting the smoke and flame…its kind of doing the reverse effect. I have also tried keyframing the evaporation but it doesnt work the way I want it too. The video attached describes what I want to a T. Thanks for your help thus far none the less.

Hi all,
I was wanting to know how to make a pyro explosion dissipate away after about 60 frames. Im doing it to create a small explosion. I have attached a link to a video describing what I mean. If you run the regular pyro sim (fireball), it continues to emit smoke even after the first fireball. I would like the smoke to dissipate about 1-2 seconds after the initial fireball but im not sure how to do that. Can I get some assistance please? Thank you very much.

A personal, “you are most welcome” - although I am sure I speak for all at Side Effects on this matter. We love what we do - creating Houdini and working with artists. Getting some thanks along the way is just icing on the cake.
Many thanks to you,
Kim
You guys are awesome!

Hi,
I just wanted to personally thank sidefx, the owner, president, developers, and all those involved, for making such an amazing product and giving the general public the ability to learn and potentially make something out of themselves within the visual effects world. I can not thank you enough for providing a product of this magnitude to someone as little as myself so that I have just as much of an opportunity to fulfill a dream as someone who is fortunate enough to afford a full 3d package on their own. It is my hope that I can contribute back to this company just a fraction of what they have given us. Thank you SideFx.
Sincerly,

Houdini Lounge » Houdini printed manual?

I think that without a good printed or pdf manual that cover the most important aspect of the program it'll be impossible for me to begin use Houdini.
I cannot follow the video tutorials while using the program, and the help is for who know yet the use of it and need deeper explanations.
I think a beginner manual, with tutorials and so on is the best for most of people.
I hope Sidefx will consider that.
Bye.
Achille
I think a good idea for you to do is to dictate what you listen to in the videos then go back and follow along with your dictation. You can open up a help file screen in houdini, save the dictation in a free doc writer (google docs), then open that document in the help file browser. This will allow you to have your notes in the same window as your workspace without having to flip back and forth.
Plus, you can just open the help files through that browser as well. If you find a node or icon you dont understand, set your mouse over it then hit f1 and it will bring up info about that node in the help file window for you to read. Here is a helpful video that will explain this a little more. http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=839&Itemid=241 [sidefx.com]
Good luck!

You can adjust the frequencey, the rows and coloums and the other cutting settings, but dont hold up much hope. For an object as relitivley simple as a vase, I would use cookies by hand.
See attached file.
Cheers.
Thank you VERY MUCH for taking the time to do this for me. I really really appreciate that…its been most helpful

Ok, thank you very much again ragupasta. I am home now and will be testing out the simulation this evening. It is very much appreciated.
Also, I noticed that cardanfx has tutorials on breaking objects using veronoise if anyone is interested in learning about this.
Thank you

Thank you artzor. I will try that when I get home. I have used the break before but I only noticed one actual break on the object. Is it possible to increase the breaks or even add another break sop to the model itself? I was wondering if that was at all possible or if it was limited to one break. Do you happen to have the link to the odforce thread you created, or would I search under the name “artzor”? Thanks again.

Thank you Ragupasta for the helpful information. I cannot view the file at this time but I will when I get off work. Could you explain how I might go about finding information on the cookie sop as well as the workflow to set it up (something brief)? Would the houdini documentation be sufficient in explaining how I set up the cuts and usage of the sop? thanks again!
