Hello,
I have an anatomical skeleton that I'd like to rig so I can animate it to use with new muscle system in H16. I'm completely new to rigging. How would I be able to capture the rig to the skeleton so that the rig only rotate/translate the skeleton and doesn't deform that actual geometry.
Thank you.

The default expression for the Overwrite with SOP parameter on the Constraint Network DOP is evaluating to 1 on each frame because the SOP node is time-dependent, and this keeps overwriting the constraint network from the SOP path.
The time dependency comes from the use of $F on the file cache SOP, so you could either adjust that or change the Overwrite with SOP expression to $SF == 1 to only import from SOPs on the first frame.
That solved it! thanks!

Hello,
I'm following the applied houdini rigids II tutorial but I'm having trouble implementing it. I'm using H16, so I don't know if that's the problem (even though I used the same nodes).
What's happening is that inside the SOPSolver which is inside the Dop network, the solver is supposed to break the constraints at frame 3 and then continue to break them. What happens instead is that it does break them at frame 3, but instead, creates new constraints at frame 4.
I've attached a copy of my hip file.
Thank you.

Hello,
Whenever I enter the $CEX expression to compute the centroid of my object I get this error:
“Unable to evaluate expression (Undefined variable (/obj/geo1/copy1/px)).”
I attached a screenshot of the error

Hello,
Is there a way to create geo (grid) facing along camera normal/target location. The reason I need this because I'm using octane and the only way to create lights is to create geometry and add emission property to them, so I'm wanting to do something similar to houdini's cntrl + click on light to create light from view.
Thank you.

Hello,
I know this technically might not be fabric, it seems some kind of rubber, but I feel like it's too wrinkled to be pure rubber. How do I achieve the “vacuum”/sucked in effect with the cloth solver?
Thank you

Hello,
What should I put in the server name field when installing hqueue client on windows machine? I tired “localhost” and the machine name of the server but they're not showing up on web interface

Here is a example of a flower with dynamic wires, using constraints.
…How did we survive before the the constraint network era? Stamping anchors and constraints.
Thank you mawi! That's exactly what I was looking for How would I bind/capture the wires to my geometry? Would it be like a normal rigging capture? I completely new to binding, so any tutorials or articles that can get me started would be much appreciated!
Thank you
Houdini Learning Materials » Pixelator Asset tutorial question

Hello,
I have a question regarding the pixelator asset tutorial (https://sidefx.com/tutorials/pixelator-asset/) [sidefx.com]
The HDA shown in the tutorial keeps cubes that are floating in air or aren't “physically” attached to other legos. Is there a way to modify it so it matches the mechanism of actual lego pieces?
Thank you.

Hello,
I have flowers in scene that I'd like to add wind blowing motion to them. I don't need anything to fly of them. Here is a reference video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g7Q8TKVQrA [youtube.com]
Should I use POP, RGB, FEM or cloth?
Thank you.

bukieven after I turn it off it's still a bit there (I've attached a before and after). another question is what's making the smoke go down? I tried putting a negative number in temp. scale as described in the documentation but that didn't help when doing my own solver.
make sure you are not displaying your source at object level.

Hello,
When using the dry ice shelf tool, the source object remains at top (see screenshot). I'd like to only have the fallen fog and for the source volume to disappear after time. I tried keying the activation slot in source volume node which helped a bit but it's still there.
Thank you.

I would just use several layers of noise - delete points - subdivide - and noise again.
Magnus to the rescue! as usual! Thank you

Hello,
I'm wondering what's the best approach to create an object that has burned and show the remains (after the fire went out) I've attached an image of the look I'm going for. I'm guessing I could manually sculpt the shapes and then turn the roughness in shader and maybe play with texturing procedurally but I'm not sure if there is a better way to generate the shape.

24gb ram would be helpful if you are doing OpenCL simulations (can do bigger sims) and if you're using GPU rendering, like octane, vram is very important

Do not get a quadro, that's my recommendation. The only difference between quadro cards and gtx cards is that quadro cards have error correcting memory. You only need this when you need super accurate scientific computation (like climate simulation) and even then, I see most Machine learning researchers using Titan X card. The other reason is that some quadro cards come with 24GB vram, but I doubt you'll need this.
For the same amount of money, GTX cards are much faster.

Hello Everyone,
I've started Houdini since two days and i have a problem that when i tried to create a plane or whatever in Houdini it takes 30 to 40 secondes and it says Run Hscript Command / Uptding export / Evaluating python / Running python script on the bottom left. I'm new to Houdini but not in 3D software (such as Max, Maya, Zbrush…) and i don't think my computer is in fault ( i7 3.4Ghz / SSD / 16 Go Ram …) If anyone has an idea . ( I'm sorry for my english by the way
Thanks and have a good day.
Can you provide the file you're using? It shouldn't take more than fraction of a second to create a primitive. Are you using the shelf tools to create them or are you typing in the network editor?
