Houdini Lounge » Heightfield import file from COPS?

It's interesting to note that when VEX uvsample without Cop i get the left result, but with other volume method and xyzdist') (with COP) , the right one, which is sharper but this border artefact. Both heightfields have the same voxel numbers, and same "input"...

I found a way by bypassing the COP and uvsample with VEX which is faster, but im still interested to know in case someone has an answer

Trying to do a Heightfielf stamp "deformer" (on curve with other controls), and whiel i was trying to avoid a slow road, my 2d approach looks is perturbed at last checkpoint as i can't find a way to make the houdini heightfield file read my COP input...
Has someone ever succeeded in that?
Obviously i use the "Op:" like this "op:/obj/Path_Deform/texture/OUT"
cheers, ahppy new year to all of you!

Is it possible , and with the HDK? Coudl you talk about please?
and if not why Sidefx doesn't make it possible, this makes total sense no to be able to export UI part of the Houdini proceduralism ?
There are more artist asking for interactive tool in Unreal and Unity than in Houdini...
Best regards and merry Xmas Everyone!

Digipictionvinyvincer/dot(r,r) is not a division by zero though?
but vector r/dot(r,r) looks a but curious to me. Maybe it has changed , everything is possible with IA afterall , even changing rules of math, bu division by zero was not a recommended pratice
You offcourse totally right, don't even know where my head was at this moment, shame on me! :P
GPT 3 at the moment is probably better to write functions library, doesn't seem to understand point wrangle is already a loop per point.
IA wil certainely help to convert cube of logics between different language system, like converting shader toy or processing code with already some base to start on. IT's very easy to loose your mind in all the possibility and totally forget your first goal
Im wondering until when the service will be available for free...

Still very strange way to find the intersection of 2 vectors.. Maybe that's just my maths who are too obsolete to understand, i don't know

Have seen amazing GPT3 example and this one is not failing to impress me!
How does GPT3 know the houdini PcOpen() func? And was it learn to code in VEX?
Im confused.. i don't see you define the target and description anywhere in your request...
I have tryed with Python code generation, but i didn't thought we are already to a smaller granularity, so it could code in VEX too..?

Houdini for Realtime » Gaea Labs toolset error

It's in "build", right screen menu of Gaea --> options --> range
More hidden is the terrain definition , same page of the menu, but really at the botton, quite confusing to find...
For now, on my side, im trying to find a stable correct tile workflow between the two.. Im not sure at this moment, using the tile feature of Gaea is a good bet or not.. :S
Gaea is a great program but not as mature as other, so how much i should bet on it, this is my question now

Now only using a zero border node in Gaea, "corrupted" the height relation ... Have you noticed other nodes like this i should kind put a special note to my team so my tiles will not match anymore their neighbour friends?

Could we have like Unreal, a way to ouput all Houdini curve to unity curves component?
In unreal you just have to "unreal_output_curve"

Since V19, there is a big problem with the curves created by Houdini engine. We can no longer edit them in Unity. (this only happens when you re-open the scene later). I reported the info to Side FX who actually managed to reproduce the problem but since no fix has been provided since, (after more than one year)
- In a unity project (with the 19.XX engine installed). Create two curves by the engine.
- Save
- Close the project
- Re-open the project
- Make a ReCook on each of the curves
All is now non working after second recook
Support for Houdini_engine in Unity is getting worse and worse, please help or clearly and officialy dump the support?
Many thanks

Gello guys! Glad to see some people trying to use the potential of Gaea inside Houdini , the Sidefx support. I have in mind to fully integrate it in in our massive open world project and will be glad to contribute if i discover on my side some unusual suspect behaviour
Mai, i can't quarantee you might not have to do another bugfix iteration
Now i will for sure need PDG support or i will have to forget it...
Please keep us informed ! Cheers

PDG/TOPs » Best pratices and tips to make PDG run as fast as it should

- GPU... I have ofen come to case the node refuse to output because of open CL Ram issue. How does it works in PDG? I mean is it not risky to use OpenCL when use multicores but with one GPU ?
- What about "Services"? it's new in 19.5... It's not clear for me how to well use that feature...
- In my experience chaining multiples HDA together is not advised? If the data exchanging between both are not large, have you experimented some deal-breaker issue please ?
Cheers

Just out from a discussion with some other users, and knowing this has been a recurrent question for a long time, i thought a thread should be created to help each other to find the best pratice and tips to get the best most out of PDG, in term of speed.
What are in your experience the sensible points which will cause a massive speed drop ?
One of the things I added to every HDA that’s being processed is a timer. This consists of two Python nodes, one at the start of the graph and one at the end, that grab the current time in milliseconds. Since I know when the node started and when it ended, I can calculate how long it took to execute that workItem
Will be happy to hear your feedback about your experience with PDG in a production context

@OneBigTree Have you managed to batch assigned your material to your first Cad model? Because the guy next door on blender just finished 3 shots
USD and Solaris should come with a combo prepaid pack of Clinex, paracetamol & camomille
Is the component builder the actual best bet for fast cycle iteration prototype asset and scene test in a early state where speed is key?
PS: @mestela by the way, in your USD page, if people use darkreader addon on chrome on firefox, its makes the top page unreadable. Didn't noticed this somewhere else...

Are these times pre-warmed, or cold? I've noticed a 30-40 second spin up time for the Optix library regardless of scene complexity.
I ran your test on my system and got the times:
(tests were done a machine that wasn't exactly idle so they aren't that scientific)
2:57 (cold) 2.19GB Mem
2:26 (warm) 2.16GB Mem
Embree device: i9 10850K
Optix Device: RTX 3090
Is it the same on Linux? the 30-40 sec spin up?
