Well, if we are stuck with keeping the original rgba channels, can we get rid of the
warning message in the rename cop.
“Warning: Can not completely rename planes C and A. Default plane(s) added.”
Can we compromise and have a setting somewhere that turns on and off the visibility of the original channels. Keeping these around as well as the renamed channels can get very complicated very quickly. Remember that a renamed C channel generates the new name plus the individual channel declarations.

Hmmm, you re-writing history Peter?
Up until very recently the normal behaviour was that deleted channels disappeared and only the renamed channel appeared.

Yes, Houdini Takes.
I found the new sequence button, thanks, although it appears that the a new sequence doesn't load unless you have a particular interface visible. Thus if I don't have the timeline view open, a second sequence won't load. The sequence is there but the images are a copy of the first sequence.
By the way what are your plans for the timeline viewer?
I've got a couple of questions concerning the delete and rename cop, it's posted on the technical forum. Would you take a look please.
thanks,

I'm a bit confused with the way the delete cop is working.
If I delete the alpha(A) channel the information (mmb) says it's still there. The docs mention that the colour and alpha channels can't be deleted, they are just cleared to black.
Okay, that's fine to a point.
If I use a rename cop to rename the colour channels from “C” to “colours”, both designations remain. The rename cop also gives a yellow warning.
“Warning: Can not completely rename planes C and A. Default plane(s) added.”
This behaviour, along with the delete cop, make for very complicated channel selections.
One of the most obvious problems is in the viewer. ie: since the C channel name remains after a rename you have to explicitly select the renamed channel to view your image.

I couldn't find the Start New Sequence option.
Example:
I have two characters that I've created facial animation for in separate takes. The timing between the two is important.
I'd like to flipbook each of these takes with block editing on, load each into the timeline separately and watch both at the same time and edit the blocking keys for each to modify their timing.

Alright now that we have block editing in the flipbook, I think it's hightime the timeline view in mplay is actually put to use.
I'd like to see the ability to see the flipbooks, not just an example image, in the timeline view and have the ability to load multiple flipbook “tracks” and manipulate the block editing of any flipbooks loaded.

Use a point sop to establish point forces on the surface you wish the particles to travel across. You can group points and assign specific forces to different areas of your surface.
Leading edge flow and trailing edge turbulence, etc.

It seems to make sense to me I should be able to call a Take into a renderer and render
what I've setup in that take.

I've brought an image into the compositor and lumakeyed the background out. The resulting image is then used in a trace sop to create a a spline, the outline of a leaf in this case.
I now want to take the image from the compositor and apply that to the leaf shaped surface.
How do I get the Cop image into a shader?

Thanks Jeff,
That certainly makes sense, but what a shame. I liked the lensflare, used it for all sorts of effects, virtually never for what it was actually for.

I have a student who needs to know if she can install Houdini on a Mac
with their unix variant.
Since I break out in hives if I go near a Mac I haven't been able to answer her question.
Anyone?

Yes it may seem confusing, though I'm not trying to equate the two.
However, in the Chops editor the viewer doesn't display the default sine wave or the editing handles of the Wave chop, yet when I call up the channel editor from the Wave chop the sine wave is there.

This might have been brought up before however, I'm finding in v6+ that
the channel editor viewer isn't showing graph channels.
Putting down an Wave chop and attempting to view the channel in the view and interactively manipulating it doesn't work. If I RMB the chop and select edit channel I get the wave but just to edit the default set of keyframes.
v5.5 on this machine provides the anticipated channel view.
This is on Win2k.
