Good afternoon,
i am trying to set the material on some geometry procedurally in the material SOP but it seems it doesn't like expressions even with the backticks or am i missing something?
I am using this expression:
ifs ( ch(“../top”) == 0, /shop/concrete, /shop/bricks)
Work around would be to create an attribute shop_material so this will be plan B when A doesn't want to play ball.
Cheers,
Hans

I don't think it works that way (aka it is that easy)…when you export a variable from VOP/Vex you can render it out to an image plane but you have to type the variable in mantra. It is much like bringing in custom attributes into VOP/Vex but then the other way around

use the chf expression. You can try something like:
chf(“../path_to_channel”, $F) - chf(“../path_to_channel”, $F-1)
chf(“../path_to_channel”, $F) - chf(“../path_to_channel”, $F-1)

Try to use displacement bounds, it's an option with the mantra renderer (add parameter to interface). Also check if you haven't by mistake two layers of geometry in the same spot.
Looks interesting!

If you want to evaluate houdini can't you use the h10 version for now? As you saw on another thread there is an issue with gfont on some windows systems. I am sure folks at sidefx are working hard to get this issue solved asap.
Or try H11 on linux, works like a charm…

Hans

Yes, with several browsers on windows (ie, opera and firefox). Of course on linux everything went fine…it's weird this only happens on windows.

Have a look at the file, it's note exactly procedural but I am sure you can fix that with an expression.

I tried to do it all in sops and with uv's…I wasn't very lucky with the setup but it might give you some inspiration.

You can import music using chops. There is an excellent book about chops and using music in houdini from Andrew Lowell:

Can't you remap them using a point or primitive expression? Or you could create a new set of uv's for the values > 1 (map them to uv2 etc).

Dirk,
just out of curiosity, what kind of linux distro are you using that still uses gcc 3.3? It's old, really old……

Naam,
can't you post (part of) your file, it will be easier for us to tinker with and come up with a solution. Also, do you need to simulate the fall of the fish? Why not animate it?
When it hits the ground maybe you could get the effect you want with assigning different masses/weight to groups of the body.
Cheers,
Hans
