Hello, since yesterday my houdini(both- different builds) crashes on startup. So i reinstall it and it happen again. The crash-dialog cames from windows-7. “houdinifx.exe doesn't work”. Maybe it cames from crashing system file(dll libaries) from waking up out of deep sleep state (i have a ssd). Most other apps are running (also 3dmax, Photoshop, etc.).
Any ideas (without reinstall the complete system) ?

thanks. tom

thanks, ali.

in the 2nd experiment I meshed a pyro-sim. Nothing special.
Sim is in AutoDopNetwork and the meshing happens in particleToMesh node.
Here you could look at the hipfile. You have to write out the sim.

rabiee&eetu, I am glad you like it!!
i love doing experimental rnd…the inital moment is mostly technical-driven and then its (more artistic) work in progress…you never know what happens next, like an adventure.
its like “layering” visual ideas step-by-step, and combinig uncommon workflows -> houdini is so great for this kind of workflow, because you are mostly unlimited !

@eetu: your lab-thread is such great (randomized) source of inspiration

I want to show some of my latest rnd-stuff. its random, its not perfect and its really short…but it was fun to do.
and i have to agree with a comment of my friend andre: “Houdini is probably be the most advanced playground for adults ”

Hello,

this is maybe a really basic question.
Situation:
I have two packed RBD-Object node piped into a multiple solver node. There I plugged RBD-Solver and POPforce.

Problem&Question:
I want the POPForce affecting only specific packed RBD-Object. I tried with Groups, no luck. Then I put a Fetch Node before the popforce with no luck.
How could I solve this problem?

thanks
Tom

never to a late: work with pyro and particle advect by volumes. With the cached particles I used the particles to vdb node and meshed it with vdb fluid surfacer.

I discovering another awesome thing in CHOPS. I drop in in the mouse chop and hey! you could use your tablet and capturing not only the x/y coordinate but also the pressure, angle, tilt and roll. How cool would be to controll particle emitter with x/y AND the pressure would controll the constantbirth rate and the angle of your pen driving the rotation of the emitter. BUT thats the idea but in reality is not so easy because: 1. the mouse chop reading only the x/y and pressure (wacom intuos 3) and the other big problem during capture and driving my particles with pen its also using it for interface action…is ther a possibilty to “by pass” my interface tablet action to drive only my emitter?

I am referring to the micro jittering(small pixels). If you look closely in some area the jittering apperas like a grid (around frame #61).

thx joker !!

if somebody is interested in, here my first steps with dops (meshed pyro sim) with some displacements….and its a brezzed how nicely mantra works with displacment..

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34142573/pyro_meshing_v04_wearshader%2B.hipnc.mov [dl.dropboxusercontent.com]

there is a lot of jittering going on. is it good way to displacing a mesh with the typical vdb-mesh topology?

I am really happy about your feedback especially from you guys. 6 month sounds short time but i could use some knowledge of my many years of 3dsmax. ..and if I like something then i can't stop doing it.

the jetfighter-shot was the most ambitious project. i try to concentrated on one complete vfx shot in 4 weeks.
last year i had done the modelling/shading of jetfighter in 3dsmax/vray. then i saw the ballon-examplescene from milan suk(bullet sop) and i thought how nice would be to put huge amount of ballons on jet on airport-tempel. i took my camera, shoting some seq and hdri. tracking. rebuild it the ballon-scene-files, learn and extend exicting controlls. 8)
the jet was rendered in max (with transformation form houdini-sim) and the ropes and ballons was rendered in mantra.

…and i am really amazed about the sidefx-philosophy, how they connected to the userbase… a small professionell community. i feel with houdini we have a bright future… i couldn't stop….and i am not a salesmanager! its totally opposite to autodesk in every aspect!!

hello,
6 month ago I decided to switching(not completely for now) after many many years from 3dmax to houdini. I will learning it step-by-step for the next years…so a lot do….but for now houdini is total mind blowing .. and I tried to understand only sops and a litlle bit of mantra….and chops/dops bring up another universe to dive in

anyway, here is the link: https://vimeo.com/89659049 [vimeo.com]

thx for watching, tom.
