Houdini Engine for Unreal » Versions of Unreal Engine 4

Forget about preview versions.
I think that even for major versions you could stick to supporting every second version and focus on polishing HEngine features, if it would help you manage resources better. First year (or even two) of HEngine for UE4 should priority HEngine expansion and polishing, not sticking to every UE4 version.
Maybe versions between every second UE4 treat as Preview version of new things in HEngine. So for example:
- 4.8 will have full HEngine support
- 4.9 will have only preview support of new things that are coming to HEngine, that means that some things may not work as expected or at all
- 5.0 will have full HEngine support
- 5.1 will have only preview support of new things that are coming to HEngine, that means that some things may not work as expected or at all
and so on…

Edit: oh, and you use Max too?
Well, I had some period with it couple years ago. Not anymore.

I think that the easiest way for you to jump in on the Houdini train would be to use Houdini Engine for 3dsmax, which is still in development and not even in Beta. But you could ask SESI, maybe they could contact you with the guy that develops it and pick you as one of the testers.
That way you could stay in Max and learn Houdini along the way.

Houdini on Windows performing like a champ, but every time the Command Line Tools is needed I'm partying like it's 1984 :shock: :!: “ ‘ls’ is not recognized” regularly appears now; will sleep better when we can use the CLT in Cygwin
Because you are using wrong Command Line. Switch to Powershell and once in it write:
Get-Alias
It will print all the aliases that it uses for its own commands that may have similar functionality to the ones you may find in old CMD or on Linux.
PWD <=> Get-Location
LS <=> Get-ChildItem
MAN <=> help
etc. are there and can be used as Alias or as normal command.
Powershell is available from Vista up, and for XP it is only as download.

FWIW, http://preta3d.com/os-x-users-unite/ [preta3d.com]
Maybe you should write to Microsoft. With their current big push for multi-platform/multi-OS support, they may fix what Apple can't, if they get bored in their spare time

sorry i forgot to add, i entered the code in a python otl from new operator type…just wondering if you can generate and plot points from that node..
And? Call the function and it will work. If you don't call it it will not execute. Right now you just wrote the function and it simply awaits there to be called.
Google what calling function means.

Let me just repost what MCG creator said when one of Softies asked about when/if MCG will support interactive and particles:
Basically, if enough people will suck their b*lls long and hard enough, they will kindly CONSIDER adding interactivity to MCG. Why they didn't made it interactive from the start?
This is approach of Autodesk to their clients and software they make.
Anyway, have a nice sucking!
We could definitely consider making MCG interactive and adding support for particles. I would suggest adding those requests to http://3dsmaxfeedback.autodesk.com. [3dsmaxfeedback.autodesk.com.]

Than maybe it's better to move itto HEngine forum. I think devs look there a lot more than on Orbolt part.

Looking at Orbolt page it doesn't seem to have support for anything other than Houdini itself.

Korny Klown2SreckoMUnlimited render resolution, Maxs famous modeling tools and modifiers, stuff like that probably. Of course SESIs new pricing scheme is really attractive but for me it wasn't enough to tip the balance.
…why would I pay for 3dsMax that much when I can have Indie Houdini for 200$ per year?
It is unlimited in Indie… for stills. For animation is 1080p. As Indie I don't have enough firepower to render animations even in 1080p in reasonable amount of time.
BTW. For the price of 3dsmax + Vray + Realflow + FumeFX, I can have:
Houdini Indie + Modo + Zbrush + Substance Designer/Painter + update computer.
Each of those programs is fast and not bloated. I do hope that you are not trying to tell me that Max is better than all those programs together?
SreckoM
… And when I'm watching this [youtube.com] I'm seriously asking why Houdini? From what I've seen so far it seems to be capable of everything procedural I need, without forcing me too much into that procedural structure…
If that's all you wanted, why you didn't switched thru all those years to Softimage? It had all you needed, right?
Still after so many years Max doesn't have even simple fluids. Dynamics are a joke. And so on…

The reason is, because no serious modeling artist wants to struggle with Houdinis so called “modeling toolkit”, for f@%& sake! Accept that!
God, this kind of ignorance and arrogance makes me angry.
This thread is over for me.
I have zero problems with modeling in Houdini. How detailed model you would like to see to believe that there are no problems with creating one in Houdini? Any picture for example?
