Hi guys!
I'm trying to find a presentation I've seen some time ago. It was about rigging / animating a zipper in Houdini. I'm pretty sure I've actually seen it sometime and not just dreamt it but after looking for it I can find no trace of anything like it.
Does anyone remember anything remotely similar?
Thanks!

I have a strong artistic / design background, so maybe I personally also mind that native theme with strong outlines and gradients - but the other way around I don't want a circus either.
I've been using AXSC Houdini Theme [axelschoterman.com] for about four years now with a slight gamma change in in the color settings, because it's too dark otherwise. I think this makes Houdini look classic and timeless - I certainly don't need anything else for the next 10 years.Image Not FoundImage Not Found
How did you setup the gamma change?

Thanks, I can reproduce the crash.
A temporary workaround is to append a Clean Sop node just after Fast Remesh so to remove the degenerate primitives that seem to be causing the issue.
Also, be aware that you are producing self-intersecting geometry (have a look inside the geometry)
Thank you! I will have a look at how the Clean Sop can help. To be honest I've seen those intersections, and was wondering how to remove them -however I think anything that could help remove them would also maybe negate the speed gains?

Trying to use Labs Fast Remesh in a solver and it always crashes. Has anyone tried it?
Hi, can you upload a simple hip file?
Here is a small example:

Groups can also cause this geo splitting problem.
For more info on how to control the alembic splitting, you can check this page:

Thanks, I'll have a look. Maybe it hints at how you can compose meshes.

sepuYes, it's 3ds max.
can I ask what is the DCC that you are trying to import this to?

make sure the pack and instance isn't checked in the copy to point node, and that there isn't any path/name attribute, this is how houdini 'separate' the mesh into multiple object when saving into the various file format.
Thanks. But how would someone go about instancing so many objects efficiently in Houdini? I am using pack and instance on the copy to points node because I don't see how I could work otherwise -to your point though I tried unpacking after the copy to points node, deleting all attributes etc and then trying to export to Alembic and it still didn't work -I will try caching a few frames without the option to pack and instance on the copy to points too, if you think that will work.

Export multiple shapes (such as those generated by a copy to points) to single shape Alembic
I am trying to export the result of a copy to points which generates about 20000 objects to a single collapsed Alembic.
The problem is the destination DCC which imports the alembic and generates 20000 in the scene which is incredibly slow -but nothing I have tried so far made it possible to collapse the objects into a single shape or export them as a single mesh.
Is there anything I can try?
Thank you!

I know it should be possible to have this since I see it in a few tutorials but in my scene file I cannot have the sprite multiplied by the Cd of the particles.
Is there a way to enable this?

Drasko IvezicOk, now that we have that sorted… how can you make that group of points follow the transform of an alembic node, maintaining the offsets and getting the correct translation and rotation?

…at SOP level.
Hi everyone.
So I have geometry coming in through alembic, and I can isolate the nulls I want to use as drivers. I also have some splines coming in that I would like to run through a vellum sim. I want to pin / constrain the ends of these splines to the nulls that are animated but can't figure out how at the sop level.
Do I need a wrangle or VOP or is there a simpler method that I'm missing?
Thanks

Especially interested in the flip 0.05 time.

Ok
For CPU, do you think the AMD 3960X with 24 core at 3.8 GHz is enough? Do I need more core? More GHz?
3970x is also good value I think. But don't go all in on the CPU alone. A powerful GPU can also make a world of difference. Also next month new TRs and RTXs are coming so I wouldn't buy anything before then.
Are you sure about new TRs next month?

Hi,
I was just wondering if the following behaviour is normal or rather it should be seen as something concerning.
Simulation is rather coarse, particle separation at 0.3 but the tank itself is pretty large.
Thank you.

So guys, is it possible to distribute flip sims on a single machine, and if it is possible do they need to be run in parallel or can they be serialized, so that after slice 01 finishes simulating, slice 02 can begin?
