Epic even invest in the open sourge game engine godot:

pipeline is a tricky thing that is mostly a inhouse production process that is in the detail mostly not public. except blender foundation projects where you can get story's and project files.

there are some youtube videos or snippets for how the concept is or how the build it.
we also can say thanks to some openness we are getting more and more tooling to build a custom pipeline today with less man power.

What is IFD?

IFD is the file format for mantra.

As USD is for Karma.

Onshap as a example uses a streaming function it is not fully wasm.
To use hydra could be a option but it will be just the viewport.

More robust Karma and GPU Karma – awesome….but why not make it available in the OBJ context like Mantra? I don't get why it's restricted to the Solaris context?

Karma is optimized to use USD as the scene file format. So it needs USD to work, with all the attributes and co.

They surly could do a converter but it will take time. But i guess solaris will be the new starting point for all projects when karma is production ready.

KineFX sounds interesting…

but i can not get any idea from the name…

does anyone can give me an explanation?

What we know is that this release focus is character animation.

Kinefx => kinematic fx

So if it has a name there will be surly many nodes to play with.
I have seen the screenshot and i think nearly any part in houdini got updated.

not many are using openvdb 7 from openvdb.org even i don't use it, why do you want to use it?
if you are note a developer or a studio i don't think it makes a lot of sense, next version of houdini will have it.

the question could be ask at: https://www.openvdb.org/forum/ [www.openvdb.org]

If the hardware is below the system requirements then it gets tricky.

I will say that Apple is pretty aggressive in providing assistance and even programmers to facilitate adapting code to the OSX platform. They're doing that with Redshift, OTOY, and even Blender at the moment, so it wouldn't surprise me if they are actively collaborating with SideFX right now.

Lastly, don't underestimate the power of modern compilers. A lot of people seem to have the mistaken idea that simultaneously supporting Windows, Linux and OSX require huge amounts of resources and manpower, but in most cases that is no longer necessary as compilers will do most of the work automatically.

History shows it is NOT a easy task:
Otoy
2016: https://home.otoy.com/octanerender-3-and-roadmap-update/ [home.otoy.com]
2018: http://www.cgchannel.com/2018/03/otoy-reveals-its-roadmap-for-octanerender-2018-and-2019/ [www.cgchannel.com]
“In Otoy’s early OctaneBench benchmark tests, the Vulkan and Metal backends are already as fast as CUDA, even when running on Nvidia GPUs.”

Unity
port to Windows: https://blogs.unity3d.com/2009/03/20/unity-25-for-mac-and-windows-now-available/ [blogs.unity3d.com]
port to Linux: https://blogs.unity3d.com/2015/07/01/the-state-of-unity-on-linux/ [blogs.unity3d.com]

as i said SESI and others are not in a easy situation.
the next 2 years will show what is happening.

I'm not saying ditch OpenCL and transitioning to Vulcan.
But ditch OpenCL and transitioning to Vulcan.

Worse case they might have to do a Metal version for the Mac and CUDA/Optix/Vulkan version for Windows. OpenCL is just too slow.

SESI is currently not in a easy situation for the development for the mac system. it is not only METAL it is now also ARM, that means all code must be portable cpu and gpu wise for the Karma render and Houdini.

Mantra is a pretty old render compair to newer renderer.
Mantra is EOL in terms of development this problem will be solved with karma but currently in beta.

When you know there won't be anything to render you can use attributes, frame range….

You also can use HQueue and send the render job to your computers.

Well mantra doesn't know that it should deliver a black image.
Whenn there is a camera and light in the scene it will try hard to create a masterpeace of a image. Even when it is a black image
