Houdini will get crashy when the available memory, either disk or RAM, starts to get full. Take a look at the available memory on those machines.
Otherwise, that's one helluva rant.

Moin,
I guess you mean the function to enlarge the networkview-pane to “full size”, which is CTRL+B on Windows (and probably on Linux)? While that is nice for displaying a complex network view, it may not be what you need in a tutorial that shows what the nodes actually *do* (in the perspective view).
Yet, you are right of course, showing how the full network looks like quite often would be helpful in tutorials.
Since I want to produce Houdini tutorials (and have started with some small “make your transition easier” ones on Vimeo), I would love to see more hints *and* *wishes* in this thread about what people would *like* to see in tutorials, what they hate, what they consider good practice!
Marc
I am not suggesting they keep it open, only as appropriate, and definitely at least once with an overview. Even the best authors will keep the node view to a small square in the bottom right as they search for nodes or discuss the setup to come. A bit frustrating.

and in the network view (that's the one with your nifty node tree), NEVER EVER fail to
HIT Cmd-B
(that's on the Mac, its something else on other computing devices but you get the idea)
and BOOM, the magic of how your genius brain works in one EASY TO SEE screen that is super useful for screen grabs and other such wizardry!
Cheers

The only lighting in the scene shown below should be emission from the white dots on the green surface but I'm getting this weird headlampy reflection. You can see it in the aluminum box in the back.
Is there some automatic headlamp added in Mantra when no lights are present? Other ideas?
I'm not a lighting guy so if anyone can shed any (wait for it) illumination here, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Anyone else get the problem where a camera background image stays stuck in the render background? Regardless of what I do (turn off toggle for background image in camera view tab, clear caches, toggle on viewport sidebar to odd, etc), it won't go away? It is supremely annoying.

Awesome. Learned about another previously undiscovered node. Thanks!
That used to drive me nuts, watching a tuturoial and someone drops down a node I'd never heard of that saved the day. Now it's exciting new terrain to explore.

why is it that whenever you post a question you then find the answer on your own?
Always happens to me. Almost always anyway.

Technical Discussion » Reload FBX

Thinking there's an easy answer I'm missing here - I import an FBX from Modo, work on it in Houdini. FBX gets modified and re-exported from Modo (or whatever). Question is, is there an easy way to force Houdini to reload the FBX scene without having to go into each node and hit Reload on the respective File in nodes?
Thanks, Kevin
Thanks, Kevin

That's funny. I was clicking the little square box at the end of the row. Works fine when you don't.

Is there a way to list all objects that have a common material, e.g., all objects that have the same Metal Grate shader applied?

I had a similar problem after 12.5. If you haven't already, shoot a line to Support and they'll walk you through it. I can't tell you exactly what it was, some local licensing file ended up in the wrong spot or something.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Probably been mentioned already but how about an up-vote button? Or is there one am I'm missing it?

Agree with Rob but camera metadata carries the bulk of the information already so from a camera matching standpoint, more robust camera controls would highlight the shot's sweet spot.
