last two dayz I worked/tested houdini, and I didn't crashed it even once, which is great thing considering the fact that with old way of using ati drivers it was crashing every day several times.
so there must be something in my theory. not quite sure what, but there is something…
it would be good if someone else try this.
respect

I think that many of people can find some of these info useful.
I experienced various crashes and bugs with houdini combined with my ati x600 on winXP, I tried omega drivers, some problems were solved, some stayed, overall it wasn't possible to work. HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE = 1 did the job, but things were incredibly slow. and then I tried this:
uninstall driver;
extract catalyst 6.4;
go to device manager, display adapter, update/install driver
and
install with “choose what to install” option;
click “have disk”;
browse to inf file extracted a minutre ago and find/select a driver that matches your card version BUT with some pro/gold name.
like: Celestica Gold Edition Radeon x600/geCube radeon x600 PRO
install it;
start Houdini, and enjoy…
maybe this isn't the most elegant way, but somehow it works…

this is one super-cool how-to
thank you so much
The main idea, for now, is to use audio to drive some displacement maps, and to try setting up blendshapes/morphs to be driven by sound too..
It will be a tough one, cause I am am a houdini noob, but I'll try hard
I'll post the results, when I get good ones, of course…

hello,
last days I try to find most suitable way to make various things/attributes deformed by the sound.
I try to import displacement maps in AfterEff and then animate whiteness & various stuff with Trapcode Sound Keys [trapcode.com] plugin, and I got some coollooking results when rendered as a displacement, but that's just one cool-looking thing, I'd like to have more control on how & what I want to “alter” with a sound..
to have something like:
load a kind of soundNode, make it become animation curve , and connect it to any attribute that can be animated.
some controls for audio would be cool, separated chanells, controls for bass, etc…
but, I don't have a day spent in writing my own script from scratch…
just copy/pasting and using scrips made by the wise men
so some help on this would be greeEeat
respect,
Djordje

ati generally has crappy drivers, well crappy open GL in fact… why, I don't know, but, a BIG butt
I must recomend this guy, 'cause all my open GL related problems where gone when I installed his drivers. I work mainly, still, :x , in Maya, so various glitches were present with official ati drivers, with omega ones, ZERO problems, it may help with Houdini, who knows…
