Hey All,
I had a fundamental question about the cloud shape generator node. The scale of the object generated at default is very very small. 5-7 units (meters) roughly. Is the expected workflow for this node and all the nodes downstream meant to be used at this scale? I am not sure what tool was used for the WDAS cloud dataset, but the scale is closer to real world it seems. I know how to increase the scale of the cloud shape generator, but the performance gets much slower as you increase scale and do lookdev. Just wanna make sure I am not missing something.
Attached is a cloud at defaults and a sphere at the default .5 radius.
My hardware specs for reference:
AMD Threadripper 7980x with 128 Gb RAM
Nvidia RTX 4090
Thanks,
Todd

Cloud Shape Generator should not be getting any slower when playing with Initial size or any scaling parameters so you should be able to make as big or as small shapes as you need
however once you are turning you shape into VDB using VDB From Polygons or VDB From Particles, you need to adjust the Voxel Size accordingly to how much detail you need, so likely increase for large clouds
in other words both 5m wide cloud with Voxel size 0.05 and 50m wide cloud with Voxel Size 0.5 will be roughly 100 voxels wide
and therefore the subsequent Cloud Noise with relatively scaled size related parms like Amplitude, ..., should take roughly the same amount of time
there is also no harm in scaling your cloud volume at the very end, and dividing the density value accordingly if you want to keep the same visual density
