You can now render from Indigo http://www.indigorenderer.com [indigorenderer.com] from Houdini 9.1

I've completed a first (test) version of this pipeline and it's available for download from http://www.sidefx.com/exchange/info.php?fileid=482&versionid=482 [sidefx.com]
- and you can read more here: http://forums.odforce.net/index.php?showtopic=6405 [forums.odforce.net]

There are a couple of outstanding things but I think it works!

Enjoy,
Jason

Updated to v0.4: Indigo v0.4 on the Exchange [sidefx.com]

changelog
0.4 - 15 April 2008,
- Added check for bad shader assignments- or regular Houdini shaders being assigned. These will show up RED in renders.
- Modified run_indigo.py to accept -o arg for output filename. Now “ip” renders to default Indigo destination.
- Added Exit Portal support by way of a property “i_exit_portal” (Thank you Kubabuk on odforce.net!)
- Added IES support to MeshLights (untested)
- Misc parm fixes (Thanks vmuriel on odforce.net!)
- Added Crop Window support. Please note that it works well only with Linear Tonemapping.

Still no partitioning yet, unfortunately.. but enjoy anyway.

It's one of these physically-based render engines, it has a nice support, active community, clear papers and very straightforward syntax.

Aha I forgot, and first of all, in contrary to similar engines Indigo is free.

There is similar activity going on, completely open source though, called lux render but at the moment it is in its very alpha stage.

All those reasons, and it was intended to ignite community interest in the capabilities of SOHO as well.

Writing support for a production-ready renderer is also a large, responsible task - and I simply don't have the time to do it. Besides, I rather enjoy Mantra too much when it comes to serious rendering.

Updated to v0.6: Indigo v0.6 on the Exchange [sidefx.com]

Discussion: odforce forum [forums.odforce.net]

changelog
0.6 - 28 April 2008,
Added Archiving capability using Indigo “<include>”. If you add “Archive Mode” and “Archive File” rendering parameters on you Object,
then you can choose to write out the geometry to an external igs file in a location of your choosing. Currently
it will only archive geometry and not materials (however, feel free to access hand-modified archives).
If you're using Indigo4Houdini archives you must current have the shader in your scene for the mesh to access.
This will be improved later to support writing materials into archives. You may also read archives generated from
other export software. Options are “No Archive (embed geometry), Write Archive, Read Archive”
Added “Save Indigo Image (.igi) file”. (Kuba!)
Fixed exponent_map parameter. (vmuriel!)
Fixed the sunlight direction to be correct - the z-direction was flipped beforehand and now it seems right.
