can we please, please, please get a dedicated section on the forums for MAC questions etc…
I don't mean just a mac Beta Forum…
but a section in the main forums…
I think this would be a good idea for two reasons:
1 - many here have no interest in Houdni on mac related question/issues and would rather not have the regular forums cluttered up
2 - having a dedicated section will help mac users find the information they need much more quickly.
after a while the mac section can go away or be merged with the regular foums…but for now I think this will help everyone.
thanks

Honestly, I think if you were going to do that, you should do it for windows and linux too, don't you think? I think there's often cross-pollination of ideas and problems, and it's often useful to have someone say “I've noticed that on Linux too!”. To me the only issue is to encourage users indicating what they're running on. I really don't mind skimming a Mac or Windows-centric post myself…
Breaking out by platform tends to isolate, I find.
Cheers,
J.C.

Not being a Mac user I was more caught by the really nice leapard image, are we going to be seeing that animated? Its looks like it could be very very cool… 8)
Our ultimate plan is to add muscles to the leopard and create walk cycles/sequences that show off muscle/skin/fur interaction. The still image was the first step.

As a linux user I think is great to have houdini in another platform more options for the users and the studios, is always better for everybody.
A little off topic, but something that comes t omy mind now:
One thing that will be great too will to ease the installation of Houdini in Linux, specially for newbies.
If Houdini will be distributed in rpm and deb packages and tarballs for thoso who want to install everything manually or use the old method, will be great.
Create deb and rpm packages can be an automated thing included in the building process so no one needs to deal with packaging on evey new build,
These packages can be only containers with almost, or none dependency, only to automate the copy of the files in the correct places and integrate the tool in the desktop, so this way you can have a deb for all the debia nbased systems and an rpm for all the redhat based systems.
This will allow users to install the software with one click in any linux box, very for new users.

Has anyone gotten on the beta yet? How does the application process go and how difficult is it to get in?
Yup - a bunch of users are in there so far and adding a lot more soon.
We've had over 1000 people sign up so far.
Just fill out the form - it's easy!
