This is a hip file from the old school blog.
Why does this file not work with Houdini 9.1?

using H 9.1.218, windows xp

This looks like a bug. If you dive in to the CHOP subnet, there are no errors. Only on the subnet above.

Submitted the bug and thank-you.

There's at least one school like the old school!

Looks like the subnet has no output node set. Set the audio flag on the CHOP you want to be the output.
