If I create projects with Houdini Apprentice HD and then later buy the full version of Houdini, can then my old Apprentice project files be opened by the full version?
Also, is the license to Apprentice HD (and the full version of Houdini) allowing me to switch between OS X and Windows and a desktop and laptop computer? I move around a lot…
Cheers

By the way, it is not true that I am a lurker. I have never lurked in my entire life, nor will I ever lurk. The description under my name is plain gossip and straight out slander and once I get a hold of the guy who started it I will tell him flat out that he is on a very slippery slope assuming such things about me.

Yes, but it will turn your full license session into Apprentice one. However, SESI offers one time file-convertion for a new buyer. Description here:

Apprentice and Apprentice HD are quite restrictive here (which goes from node-locked license of it). Again reading Faq could help:

However commercial floating license of Houdini allows you to work on any computer and any OS you'd like.

PS Buy the way:
Lurk: The activity of one of the “silent majority” in a electronic forum such as Usenet; posting occasionally or not at all but reading the group's postings regularly. This term is not pejorative and indeed is casually used reflexively: “Oh, I'm just lurking”. Often used in “the lurkers”, the hypothetical audience for the group's flamage-emitting regulars. Lurking and reading the FAQ are recommended netiquette for beginners who need to learn the history and practises of the group before posting.

Thanks a lot SYmek for the in-depth replies and links, I had managed to miss the FAQ in my search (which is kind of embarrassing as it's clearly visible in the Support link). And I confess, I actually have been lurking…
