I am new to houdini, but working on a shot.
When I pre-roll a particle sim, (cooking-op) is that process single threaded? is there anyway to speed that up or give it more horsepower?
On an 8-core mac 10.5.8

POPs is all single-threaded right now except for VEX nodes (which you would create yourself)
What you can do with the pre-roll is save out a cache of the preroll then load that in. Sorry I don't have Houdini right now but as I recall you:
-Save a .bgeo of the frame 1 data (after preroll)
-Load that into the Init field of the POP SOP.
Sorry if that's not exactly right, but that's the basic idea. Then the pre-roll only needs to be done if you change parameters that are part of the pre-roll.
Cheers,
Peter B
