Hi gentlemen,
I wanted to try the new Wire Deform and Wire Capture SOPs, but did not succeed in making them work.
Could anybody explain how to wire a network correctly to make it work? I couldn't find any info on this subject neither in the PDF docs nor in the HTML help. Seems like it has not been documented yet or I missed something?
Cheers,
D'n'D

Here's a simple tutorial using build 128 (which might change in later builds):
- load up default houdini and dive into the sops of the model object
- now in the viewport:
- put down a default grid and set the rows and cols to be 20
- turn on the construction plane
- put down a curve sop and draw a nurbs curve within the grid … something like U shape maybe
- now in the network editor:
- append a wirecapture sop to the grid
- wire the curve to the second input of the wirecapture
- in the capture parameters page in the wirecapture, hit “initialize from primitives”
- in the u radius parameter for primitive 0, change it to 0.2 in the first component
- hit enter with the display (blue) flag set on the wirecapture
- you should now see some blue circles denoting the radius and the points of the grid shown in colour
- now middle-mouse on the output of the curve to branch off, put down an edit sop
- put the display flag on the edit sop
- turn off the footprint (purple) flag from the grid
- now in the viewport:
- hit the reselect key and move the whole curve up by about 0.1 units
- now in the network editor:
- append a wiredeform to the wirecapture
- wire the output of the curve to the second input of the wiredeform
- wire the output of the edit into the third input of the wiredeform
- put the display (blue) flag on the wiredeform
- you should now see the curve deforming the grid in the viewport
- in the deform parameters page of the wiredeform, press the “initialize from primitives” button
- play around with the scale parameter and change the U range parameters as well
For extra fun you can:
- move the breakpoints in the edit sop to get different shapes
- replace the curve with a merge sop and pipe in extra curves (just remember to press the initialize from primitives button again), or
- replace the curve with a smaller and lower rez nurbs grid and move those points
- load up default houdini and dive into the sops of the model object
