FX Technical Directors are responsible for the design, creation, implementation, iteration and documentation of FX tools and procedures that simulate natural and un-natural phenomena as defined and directed by the FX technical lead, sequence lead, or any other artistic or technical supervisors.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Demonstrated ability to write particle expressions and create complex particle behavior through simulation and animation is required. Includes in-depth knowledge of fields, collisions, rigid-bodies, soft-bodies, fluids, sprites, volume rendering, etc.

- Ability to develop production tools and simulation systems in order to achieve artistic and technical direction given or assist other artist through the effects department and the studio.

- Ability to troubleshoot hardware limitations and software problems to find solutions that are appropriate and efficient for the pipeline and the time constraints of production while maintaining a high level of quality is required.

- Ability to multi-task and work on several shots or elements at once is required.

- Ability to communicate and collaborate within the FX department to share insight and experience with other members of the FX team and to help solve production problems is required.

- Responsible for communicating with the FX technical lead and production supervisors about anything that impacts the schedule for assigned shots, elements, or sequences.

- Responsible for always being prepared to show work to the FX technical lead and other artistic and technical supervisors during rounds, dailies, or any other scheduled appointment.

- Responsible for checking e-mail, phone messages, and calendar so that pertinent studio communication is received. Responsible for being on time to scheduled meetings, and working guaranteed hours plus any approved overtime when appropriate.

- Responsible for staying abreast of cutting edge tools and technology relevant to the role.


QUALIFICATIONS:

- Knowledge of Maya, Houdini, and other 2D or 3D software packages

- At least 3+ years experience in feature film production environment

- Knowledge of all aspects of visual effects and computer graphics is desirable, with a strong understanding of lighting, rendering and compositing

- Degree in computer science or other applicable field and working knowledge of one or more of the following is desired: Python, Perl, C/C++, Bash/Csh, Mel, Hscript, Vex, Renderman SL, Renderman RIB and the Maya Plug-in API
