How to make houdini fully use the capacity of all the cores of a multi-core cpu in both Windows and Mac OS?

Problem:
When houdini is cooking something only one core of our 8-core cpu is fully used, three other cores are of relatively low usage, and the rest four cores don't seem to be used at all…

Is there anyway to “turn on” Houdini's support for multicore cpu?

Or should I adjust some settings of the OS?

(using windows 7, 8-core cpu, 12G Ram)

thanks!

I believe that is has to do with some of the nodes in Houdini not being multi-threaded.

Thank you, mightcouldb1!

here are some of the images of the CUP activity and our system's configuration.

We do have a powerful workstation and we want to make full use of it for Houdini.

Please help to take a look of our Houdini configuration settings and advice us on how to boost the CPU for Houdini.

thank you!

Most of those settings aren't really to do with CPU performance, but more memory management in large scenes. Take a look at this entry from the odforce wiki about what is multithreaded in Houdini.
