Hello,

I want to subdivide an object but have the top face untouched. So, for example a box. I want the top face to remain exactly as it is and the other five face to be subdivided. How do I do this. I've set up groups and tried to get creases working but I just can't get the top face to stay untouched.

Thanks,

Dan

Select the SOP ABOVE the Subdivide SOP,
Select Nothing in the viewport (Hotkey combo s n ),
In the viewport, Tab-type Crease SOP,
Change the selection to edges (Hotkey 3),
Select the top edges on the face and the side edges hanging off the top face,
Hit Enter

Make sure the Crease SOP is above the Subdivide SOP.

Given that this is Houdini, there is a “procedural” way to generate creases as well by using the second input in to the Subdivide SOP.

See the attached file for an example of both methods above.

There's at least one school like the old school!
