How does one use Houdini with Mental Ray renderfarm consisting of Mental Ray 3.2 and Rushes que software. Do I have to grind out an mi file first? Then how is it submitted?

I have the feeling that you're going to writing the book on this one, David. I'm pretty sure that you're going to have to write your own render script which will be executed by Rushes, but generally it's a fine idea to generate the .mi on the fly from hscript and then invoke mental ray on that mi file.

We found that a good general design for a render script is for every frame…

- run hscript on the hipfile
- - generate .mi from a ROP
- - quit hscript, (releasing hscript license)
- optionally filter the .mi file
- run mental ray on .mi file

As for submitting it on Rush, I have no idea.

Cheers,

OK, Thanks.

What is the Hscript syntaxt for grinding an mi file out of scene.
So for example for scene with 100 frames, named ‘Shot01.hip’, what is the Hscript syntax?
