how to export OpenVDB from cloud rig?

sorry, I can't seem to find anything in the docs about this. How do I export OpenVDB from a cloud rig?

You can just use a ROP Output Driver or File SOP set to export files as my_file.$F3.vdb

Because H14 uses OpenVDB 3.0, and afaik nothing else supports it yet, you'll have to set HOUDINI13_VOLUME_COMPATIBILITY to 1.

Edit: more testing require as the test I had made used a normal pyro volume, which is non-vdb.

Edit2: Works fine with the ConvertToVdb node.

thanks - where do I set the env var? Is it a terminal thing or do I set it in a Houdini text file, like Maya's Maya.env?

got it. The file is ~/Library/Preferences/houdini/14.0/houdini.env

anyone know what version V-Ray for Maya uses? I can't get it to work.

Not sure for V-ray but you may want to check out the Vdb speed in 3Delight too *It's meant to be the as fast in Maya
