I realise it's not quite a Houdini Engine problem but thought this is still the best place to post

Is there a way to export via the Alembic ROP and not have all the splines/curves merge into one object when opened in C4D?

Thanks

Uncheck “Curves” in the C4D import dialog?

Hey thanks Bonsak,

I still want to bring splines/curves in via alembic but it always merges all the different spline systems into one big spline object. I was wondering if I could bring them in as separate objects

Houdini has all the curves in a single object. Alembic stores multiple curves in a single object.

If you need separate curves, you'd need to partition the curves using partitioning in the Alembic ROP.

It's likely less efficient to have separate Alembic shape nodes for each curve…

Can't quite work this one out… do I need to create attributes and use Connectivity to divide it up?

Thanks

I having issue were I want the spline a single object but each vertex the spline is broken, and would have to connect manually as I'm trying to use as a guide to drive clones. Is there a way to import with merged points, is there a merge command in Houdini that I am not using before I output, any help would be awesome!, Thanks Guys

If you are exporting from a SOP, a primitive string attribute can be used to explicitly specify where everything should go in the Alembic hierarchy. On the Alembic ROP, turn on “Build Hierarchy From Attribute” and make sure the “Path Attribute” parameter specifies the attribute you used. You may wish to place your curves somewhere like this: “/curve1/curve1Shape”, “/curve2/curve2Shape”, etc.
