Hi,

If I add hair guides to an animated geo, groom the hair and add hair simulation,
the guids do not follow the animated geo anymore.

I think it has something to do with the groom node, if I bypass the groom node inside the guide node,
hair follows the geo without problems.

As soon I use a hair brush tool, guides won't follow anymore.

Thank you for any help
Tom

There are two issues here.

1) You're using the animated mesh for grooming. This should always be done on a static mesh.

2) The order of the groom objects is wrong. My guess is that you applied the simulate tool to the “Groom” object, but it should normally be applied to the “Deform” object.

I attached a fixed version of the file.

The normal pipeline looks like this:

Guide Groom (plug in static skin mesh, ideally a T-pose)
Guide Deform (Groom Source should be the “Guide Groom”. Skin SOP should be the animated mesh)
Guide Simulate (Groom Source should be the “Guide Deform”)
Hair Generate (Groom Source should be the “Guide Simulate”)

Hi Kai,

thank you a lot for your example. I see, it's crucial to have this static mesh.
I would never have find it out by myself :-)

It's working like a charm now!

Thanks a lot

What if you want the guides to be driven by seperate animation. For example lets say geometry came in from a third party application as a alembic. That geometry would get animated and needs to update the curves in houdini. Is this possible?

So you would have the body to move with the deform node, but for the “simulation” of the hair would be driven by the geometry from the .abc

Thanks
