Hi,

Recently i got Houdini Indie for studying the new game shelf. Really amazing stuff. I had found some tutorials explaining step by step how to use those components but the Vector Field animation for Particles examples are only working using Unreal engine.

Do unity support it? and how should i implement it? I suppose it use some magical shaders, if i could just see the node creation in Unreal Engine material editor i could recreate it in unity.

Appreciate Any help.
Regards

Hi Fran,

At the moment Unity doesn't have native support for vector fields. The hda was created specifically for UE4's vector field file format. The vector fields are closely tied with the engine and gpu particles. This is possible in Unity but would require quite a bit of work. When Unity natively supports vector fields we can look at creating an exporter for Houdini.

Hi Mike, if can bake 3d vectorfield to XZ plane and XY plane 2 pic color textures, and I think it can make the vector field in unity.Any way to bake to color texture?

I just did a test and wanted to let you guys know that the vector fields from Houdini to Unity work perfect with the megaflow plugin

Hi guys - do you have any update for vector field rop node for Unity?
It still renders to .fga

We've been playing with new 2018.3 beta VFX Graph (VEG) and it supports .vf format (that you have to convert to asset)
All vector fields I have so far were taken from demo projects, I can't really say if they are converted .fga or something.

There's a tool in unity that converts flat textures to 3d textures somehow…
plus there are some custom solutions like Megaflow and Vectoraygen, it would be nice to use Houdini though.

There are tutorials out there for Unreal, wish we have something for Unity too
Thanks!

Hi. We'll add the request to our list. Right now, the VFX Graph is still in a preview state. That means some things might change before it's considered production ready. We'd rather wait for Unity to solidify the tools before we start building on top of them or creating assets that rely on a moving target.
